‘People Were Trying to Give Me Their Kids’: Tiffany Haddish Gives an Update on Her Adoption Plans, Reflects on Trip to Eritrea

Tiffany Haddish has mentioned adopting a child in the past, but it looks like she may be a mother sooner than we thought. The comedian discussed possible motherhood when she appeared on the E! network’s “Daily Pop” on Jan. 19.

While the “Girls Trip” actress conceded that she’s not ready to be a parent right now, she is considering moving forward in the near future. Haddish said she may adopt by the end of this year or sometime early next year. “Not right now,” said the comedian. “But maybe at the end of the year, beginning of next year.”

She also joked about people trying to rush her into motherhood while she was vacationing in Eritrea recently.

“I just went to Africa. I was just in Eritrea, and people were trying to give me their kids,” she laughed. “I was like, ‘Hold up now, I gotta get the paperwork right now. I can’t just be taking kids with me.'”

Haddish has also spoken about adopting a foster child in the past. She herself spent time as a foster child and noted there are many children in the world already who need love. She also joked about adopting an older child.

“I’m looking at, you know, 5 and up — really like 7,” she joked. “I want them to be able to know how to use the restroom on their own and talk. I want them to know that I put in the work and I wanted them.”

The 42-year-old actress decided against surrogacy because she didn’t want to deal with the hassle of self-injections and also joked she may have some children already. Haddish said she’d sold some of her eggs when she was 21 years old and broke.

“I don’t wanna pay nobody to carry my baby neither, ’cause then I have to go through a process of giving myself injections and all that stuff,” said Haddish. “And I already gave up — here goes something everybody don’t know, I’m gonna tell you — when I was 21, I was really hard up for some money and I gave up a bunch of eggs. … So who knows, I might got some kids out here in these streets. I doubt it, though, because I never got the bonus. Maybe somewhere though, in cryo somewhere!”

Haddish also has a new show, “After Party,” which is a comedy about a high school reunion after party going amiss when someone is murdered. “After Party” debuts on Jan. 28 on Apple TV+.
