‘Waka Fighting Air Right Now’: Tammy Rivera’s Dance Video Has Fans Mentioning the Star’s Alleged Estranged Husband Waka Flocka

Tammy Rivera stirred up quite a commotion on Tuesday, Jan. 4, after uploading a dancing video on her Instagram page.

In the post, the 35-year-old, who appeared to be commemorating the new year at an undisclosed location, is seen doing a whine dance to Nigerian singer Wizkid’s 2020 single “Ginger,” featuring Burna Boy. Whining, a dance that is well known in the Afro-Caribbean community involves an individual gyrating or grinding with or without a partner.

Rivera expressed in the caption how she plans to elevate the “troubles” she may encounter in 2022. While wishing her followers a Happy New Year, the reality star wrote, “HAPPY NEW YEAR…. Dancing through my troubles all 2022.”

As fans viewed the upload, many brought up Rivera’s alleged estranged husbandJuaquin “Waka Flocka” Malphurs. A handful of individuals called out the rapper for losing Rivera, while others mentioned the potential actions Malphurs may take after viewing her new post.

“Waka lost a beautiful woman. Idk how y’all men be getting these beautiful ass woman and then do stupid s–t to not have them anymore! She’s gonna get her blessings back twice.”

“Waka f–king stupid.”

“Waka bout to call her … in 5..4..3..2…”

“Waka gotta be somewhere nearby ready to throw hands at anyone who gets close to that dress.”

“I know Waka fighting the air right now.”

Rivera and Malphurs, who have been married since 2014, ignited separation rumors following the pair’s respective birthday posts to each other. In September, a blog site disclosed that an unidentified source that is reportedly close to the couple claimed that Rivera and Malphurs had quietly separated.

Despite the rumors, no additional details surrounding the alleged breakup have been shared with the public. Prior to the recent separation allegations, Rivera and Malphurs briefly split in 2016 after the “Round of Applause” emcee allegedly cheated on her.

Independent journalism doesn't fund itself.

We hope this story was worth your time. For over 14 years, Atlanta Black Star has stayed Black-owned and independently run. We didn't get here by waiting on ad budgets that were never built to prioritize us. Our readers did that.

Corporate support for Black media has always been thin. Outlets like ours get roughly 1% of the $170 billion spent on U.S. advertising each year, and that margin is shrinking further as advertisers walk back the DEI-linked commitments they made in 2020. That's the backdrop. It's not why we're asking.

We know a request for support isn't why you came here. But without readers choosing to fund this work directly, the depth of reporting we can do at home and abroad shrinks along with everyone else's. If you're not in a position to give, that doesn't change how much we value you as a reader.

If you are able to, a recurring contribution does more for us than a single one-time gift, because it lets us plan the next investigation instead of just the next invoice. It takes about 30 seconds, no long form, no account. Thank you for continuing to support independent journalism and freedom of the press.
