Months after requesting that she be made single in name, Tamar Braxton has gotten her wish.
The judge presiding over her divorce litigation with music mogul Vince Herbert has changed their marital status to make them each single, according to documents obtained by TMZ. However, the estranged spouses have not yet finalized the division of all their assets. That’s likely to also include discussions of alimony payments and custody of their 6-year-old son, Logan.
Back in April, The Blast reported Braxton filed papers to ask for a “status only” divorce that would make her legally single.
“Petitioner seeks a dissolution of her marriage with Respondent based on irreconcilable differences,” the documents stated. “Petitioner believes there is nothing the Court can do to salvage or repair the marriage.”
The end of the marriage of the former stars of WEtv’s “Tamar & Vince” came in October 2017. That’s when the singer filed to divorce her spouse and one-time manager.
“I told myself I would do whatever it took to keep my family together, to see a smile on someone who has seen us smile … hoping we could offer them [the] hope, faith, love and dignity that I once possessed,” Braxton said on Instagram that November after breaking her silence following the filing. “But the truth is all of those things are NOT within the marriage of Tamar and Vince … at least not anymore.”
She added that the couple “couldn’t be more broken” and explained what led her to pull the plug on her union with Herbert.
“I decided I didn’t want to be married for the sake of saying so,” she said. “I wanted to have a relationship. Someone to share my/our dreams, our successes, our failures, our past, present and future with..and not finding out s— online.”
As the divorce proceedings dragged on over the next year and a half, both Braxton and Herbert have moved on. The singer has been gleefully in love with financial services firm CEO David Adefeso, and she later confirmed on “Braxton Family Values” last season that Herbert has a new lady in his life.
With the pair going their separate ways, however, it seems they’ve been able to rekindle their friendship and co-parent successfully.
“I’m glad I got my friend back. … Our relationship is great, we cool.” Braxton said on “The Natalie Eva Marie Show” in February. “Obviously, I never thought I would be in this situation, but I think it’s for the best. I think there’s hope that he’s happy and definitely hope for my own happiness, because us together and working together was completely toxic for our marriage.”
