Tobey Maguire Gets Front-Row Access to His Ex-Wife’s Wedding to Son of Black Billionaire, But His Role for the Day Is the Real Plot Twist

Former “Spider-Man” actor Tobey Maguire, 51, had a front-row seat to his ex-wife’s big day — but his role in the ceremony was the real plot twist.

Just 19 days after finalizing their divorce, Maguire stood before Jennifer Meyer as she married another man.

The actor first split from the mother of his two children, Ruby, 19, and Otis, 17, in 2016. The two had been together for nine years before Meyer filed for divorce in 2020.

However, Maguire dragged out the divorce proceedings by not responding to the filing until 2025.

But he set his pride aside to show up for Meyer, 49, who married music executive Geoffrey Ogunlesi, 34, the son of Nigerian billionaire investor Adebayo Ogunlesi.

Their romance first caught public attention in the summer of 2023. By November, the couple had taken things up a notch with their red-carpet debut at the Baby2Baby Gala in Los Angeles.

Meyer and Ogunlesi married at the Four Seasons Resort Lanai in Hawaii. They announced their engagement in August 2024 and welcomed a daughter in May of this year.

All three children attended the couple’s celebrity-filled wedding. But when photos surfaced online, many were shocked to learn that Maguire had a far more significant role in the ceremony than just showing up to support his ex-wife.

Maguire officiated the wedding, which was attended by the likes of Leonardo DiCaprio, Jeff Bezos, his wife Lauren Sánchez Bezos, and fashion designer Rachel Zoe.

“Congratulations to them! How wonderful for the children involved to have no acrimony and just more people around to love them! Not the usual case in most divorces, sadly,” said one social media user.

Another noted, “She got a billionaire now.”

Some viewers struggled to understand why Maguire looked so happy watching his ex-wife marry someone else years after their split. Others suggested that their decade-long separation could explain why the former couple appeared to be on such good terms.

“They haven’t been together since 2016. That’s 10 years. It also means if he had to pay alimony, he no longer has to,” one person wrote.

Another commenter speculated, “He doesn’t have to pay child support anymore or anything else. That’s why he’s so happy.”

During a December 2025 appearance on Maeve Reilly’s “The Inside Edit” podcast, Meyer also opened up about the close bond she has maintained with Maguire since their separation.

“I now have an ex-husband who is my best friend and would do anything for me, and I would do anything for him,” said the jewelry maker. “Anything in the world.”

Meyer also credited actress Gwyneth Paltrow with helping her navigate the divorce process. During the devastating Los Angeles wildfires in January 2025, Meyer revealed that she, her children and Ogunlesi took shelter at Maguire’s home.

Still, some skeptics wonder whether there’s more to their seemingly amicable relationship.

“Something is OFF with Toby Maguire and this ENTIRE situation!!” declared one person. Another joked, “From SpiderMan to Wedding Man TOBEY MAGUIRE went from ’till death do us part’ to ‘you may now kiss my ex’ in the same lifetime.”

The divorce is final, but Meyer and Maguire still have unfinished business.

Although their marital status was officially terminated on Sept. 21, some issues related to their divorce remain unresolved.

According to Page Six, the former couple agreed to use a private judge to help resolve outstanding disputes, according to Meyer’s Sept. 16 court filing.

Democracy needs journalism it can trust.

This election season, the stakes are higher than usual — and so is the pressure on newsrooms to soften their coverage, stay quiet, or just disappear. Independent reporting, the kind that answers to readers instead of advertisers or political pressure, matters more in a moment like this, not less.

For over 14 years, Atlanta Black Star has stayed independent and reader-funded. We have no corporate owner and no shareholders telling us what to cover or how to cover it. That independence is also our biggest vulnerability: nothing protects it except readers choosing to fund it directly.

Newspaper ad revenue has fallen more than 80% since 2005, and local newsrooms are closing at a rate of roughly two a week nationwide. When outlets go under in a moment like this, it's rarely the independent, reader-funded ones that get to stick around.

We know a request for support isn't why you came here. But without readers choosing to fund this work directly, the depth of reporting we can do at home and abroad shrinks along with everyone else's. If you're not in a position to give, that doesn't change how much we value you as a reader.

If you are able to, a recurring contribution does more for us than a single one-time gift, because it lets us plan the next investigation instead of just the next invoice. It takes about 30 seconds, no long form, no account. Thank you for continuing to support independent journalism and freedom of the press.
