‘I Love How They Love Each Other’: Toya Johnson and Robert Rushing’s Preview to Their Workout Boot Camp Left Fans In Awe Over the Couple’s Love For Each Other

Toya Johnson and Robert “Red” Rushing‘s adoration for each other overshadowed her boot camp post on Feb. 21, after fans solely focused on a special moment that occurred during the workout session.

The couple began dating in 2017, and got engaged two years later, in 2019. Johnson and Rushing’s proposal ceremony ultimately aired on television the following year during the season-three finale of “T.I. & Tiny: Friends and Family Hustle.” The pair also shares a 4-year-old daughter, Reign Rushing.

In the Instagram post, Johnson shared images and clips from a couples’-themed boot camp, which included a video of her and Rushing sharing a kiss while doing stationary lunges. Alongside the upload, the 38-year-old stated in the caption how much fun the Feb. 20 session was.

She wrote, “Our @teamweightnomore BOO camp was super fun last night hosted by @mrs2weeksout and @trapfit_dj powered by Lululemon. I loved the energy and the team work. Working out with your partner is fun!”

As fans began to view Johnson’s post, many zoomed in on the couple’s special moment. Several individuals even pointed out how happy they were to see Johnson in a loving relationship. The star was previously married to Lil Wayne and Micky Wright.

“I love how they love each other.”

“So cute.”

“It’s the 3rd slide for me…y’all so cute.”

“Toya finally got the love she deserved. God’s time.”

“I just love to see how in love y’all are he’s definitely the 1 for you.”

This post comes months after Johnson dedicated a post to her fiancé in honor of his 41st birthday. She wrote, while expressing how grateful she was for Rushing, “You gave me shoulders to lean on, arms to feel safe in and realness to last a lifetime, and for that, I’m forever grateful. Happy birthday my love! Cheers to another amazing year around the sun! @mrrushlife.”

Still independent.

We hope this story was worth your time. For over 14 years, Atlanta Black Star has stayed Black-owned and independently run. We didn't get here by waiting on ad budgets that were never built to prioritize us. Our readers did that.

Corporate support for Black media has always been thin. Outlets like ours get roughly 1% of the $170 billion spent on U.S. advertising each year, and that margin is shrinking further as advertisers walk back the DEI-linked commitments they made in 2020. That's the backdrop. It's not why we're asking.

The wider picture isn't any steadier. Newspaper ad revenue has fallen more than 80% since 2005, and local newsrooms are closing at a rate of roughly two a week nationwide. When outlets go under, it's rarely the ones built to center a Black perspective from the ground up that get to stick around.

We know a request for support isn't why you came here. But without readers choosing to fund this work directly, the depth of reporting we can do at home and abroad shrinks along with everyone else's. If you're not in a position to give, that doesn't change how much we value you as a reader.

If you are able to, a recurring contribution does more for us than a single one-time gift, because it lets us plan the next investigation instead of just the next invoice. It takes about 30 seconds, no long form, no account. Thank you for continuing to support independent journalism and freedom of the press.
