The Drake memes are rolling in after the rapper attended a basketball game between the Miami Heat and the Toronto Raptors on Tuesday, Feb. 1. At the game, a camera zoomed into the Canadian rapper’s face while he looked at his phone. It’s unclear exactly what he was looking at, but it couldn’t have been good, judging from his facial expressions.
Hours later, the video was reposted on The Shade Room’s Instagram page, where fans in the comments blamed Drake’s confusing facial expressions on his inability to accept that his ex Rihanna is pregnant by someone else: A$AP Rocky. Many noticed how visibly upset the OVO boss looked, attempting to respond to something on his phone, but ultimately putting it in his pocket.
“This man is clearly hurting,” wrote one person, while another said, “He still mad about that damn pregnancy announcement, let that man sulk in peace.”
A third added, “His friend sent him another Rihanna meme and he’s sick.”
Contemplating what Drake was doing on his phone, one person said, “He was blocking A$AP & RiRi on all socials.”
For years, Drake and Rihanna were intertwined in an undefined on-again, off-again relationship. The two referred to each other as friends until dating rumors sparked in 2009. Throughout their careers, they collaborated on Rihanna’s “Work,” “What’s My Name,” and the title track from Drake’s 2011 album, “Take Care.”
As if becoming a meme over your ex wasn’t enough, fans believe Rihanna’s pregnancy announcement will trigger Drake to pour his heart into another reflective love album.
“That’s ‘Take Care’ Drake. He hurt [for real],” wrote one person in the comments, while a co-signer added, “‘Take Care 2’ on the way.”
Drake has clearly been in love with the “ANTI” singer for years, but she hasn’t always felt the same. In 2016, the “Certified Lover Boy” awkwardly professed his undying love for RiRi while presenting her with the Michael Jackson Vanguard Award at the MTV VMAs.
Two years later, Rihanna broke the news to Vogue that Drake’s speech made her “uncomfortable” and that they were no longer friends.
She said, “We don’t have a friendship now, but we’re not enemies either. It is what it is.”
Still today, fans believe Drake wants that old thing back after sharing his lingering feelings for the pop star on his 2021 album, “Certified Lover Boy.” It arrived months after A$AP Rocky confirmed his relationship with Rihanna in May 2021, followed by photos of Rihanna covering up the matching shark tattoo she got with Drake.
