Michele wrote on the Instagram story shared on Tuesday, Oct. 12, “Hope @wendyshow starts to feel better soon. We didn’t have the best interaction, but I understand the nature of your job. I have always respected it, even though it didn’t respect me.”
Michele wrapped up the post by saying, despite their differences in the past, she would be “honored” to guest host on “The Wendy Williams Show” until Williams returned. She wrote, “Also, I am available to guest host in your absence if needed. I’d be honored.”
Michele’s post came hours after Williams’ official Instagram account released a statement regarding the upcoming season and what’s in-store with the show as the 57-year-old “continues to be under medical supervision.”
It read, “The Wendy Williams Show will start airing originals on Monday, Oct. 18, with an exciting lineup of guest hosts and panels to be announced shortly. Wendy continues to be under medical supervision and meets with her medical team on a daily basis.” The announcement also stated although Williams is making progress she is now experiencing complications with her thyroid condition and Graves disease.
“She is making progress but is experiencing serious complications as a direct result of Graves’ Disease and her thyroid condition. It has been determined that more time is needed before she is able to return to her live hosting duties.”
As Michele’s upload gained traction on social media, many people mentioned that she was being an opportunist.
“Lmao Draya said imma get the bag by all means necessary.”
“Opportunist at its finest.”
“Draya I see you trying to secure a bag.”
“Not sliding in the job application chileee, I’m hollering.”
“She was just plugging herself in.”
In addition to the “opportunist” remarks, a couple of people claimed they didn’t feel Michele’s well-wishes to Williams were sincere. One wrote, “It was her throwing the hosting part in there for me, that took away from the sincerity for me.”
Another said, “She just used that as an opportunity to offer herself as a guest host. People are dirty!”
Last month, Williams was admitted to a New York City hospital for a psychiatric evaluation. This admission was related to her mental health after the daytime host tested positive for a breakthrough case of COVID-19. Her diagnosis ultimately postponed season 13 of ” The Wendy Williams Show.”
