Duane Martin has been living in bliss with his girlfriend Ashley Marie Jones since the two got engaged in 2024.
They have yet to reveal the exact start date of the relationship, as they only went Instagram official to announce their engagement. But from most of their posts, the two seem to be happily in love.
Despite this, Martin can’t shake the shadow of his infamous prior relationship with Tisha Campbell.
The former couple had been married for nearly 20 years before calling it quits in 2018, and the split came with allegations of abuse. Now he and his new lady are being reminded of the turmoil and drama of that divorce.
On Aug. 11, Jones shared pictures of some of their special moments together in honor of his 61st birthday. While he received a lot of love on the Instagram post, he wasn’t given the same treatment on Threads.
The nine-paneled carousel included pictures of the two embracing one another and some solo shots of Martin. In another picture, Jones wore a big smile on her face while holding up three fans with her man’s face on it.
Many people’s comments addressed the resemblance between Jones and Campbell. The ladies are both lightskinned with dark brown hair.
One person who noticed this wrote, “I just noticed a resemblance,” and another responded, “He def has a type.”
Another person mentioned the old rumor that Martin was the reason why the 1990s show “Martin” ended, which starred Campbell and Martin Lawrence as a couple.
They said, “Nah bro basically ended Martin! We needed at least one or two more seasons! BOO THIS MAN!”
The popular ’90s sitcom was cancelled after the five seasons in 1997 after Campbell filed a sexual harassment lawsuit against Lawrence. Lawrence disputed the allegations, and the two have since reconciled. Though the theory hasn’t been confirmed, fans have suspected for years that Martin was jealous of the TV couple’s chemistry and pushed Campell into making those allegations against her co-star.
Ironically, during their divorce process, Campbell accused Martin of physical, emotional, and mental abuse, which she said started shortly after they got married in 1996. She was granted a restraining order against him in 2019, but dropped it a month later to make coparenting their sons Xen Martin, 24, and Ezekiel Czar Martin, 16, easier.
Additionally, the two filed for bankruptcy in 2016 after stacking up more than $15 million in liabilities. It was revealed in 2025 that they had $16 million claims discharged and they made a final distribution of $1.7 million to creditors.
Using the divorce as a reference, fans further warned Jones about her relationship with Martin.
One said, “Sis just keep it quiet 🤫. He will embarrass you and the karma you are inheriting is diabolical. Smdh.”
Another person wrote, “I hope you don’t have any money, valuables & a joint account. You didn’t see what he did to the lady you resemble????”
Campbell has not shared her thoughts on Martin’s relationship with Jones. She also has yet to enter a new relationship of her own.
