Tyrese and his estranged wife Samantha Lee have been duking it out in court amid their ongoing divorce proceedings. According to TMZ, the singer and Lee appeared in court on Aug. 29 for the first of two days of hearings and the judge has come to a decision.
Tyrese reportedly has to pay $10,000 a month in child support including payments dating back to September 2020 when Lee filed for divorce.
The “Sweet Lady” crooner was seeking to secure joint physical and legal custody of his and Lee’s daughter, Soraya, and the final say on non-medical emergencies. He was also hoping the judge would dismiss Lee’s request for $20,000 in monthly spousal support and a request regarding the couple’s Range Rover.
The couple wed in February 2017, and had their daughter in October 2018, but by the end of 2020 the two had publicly announced their separation. Tyrese also has a teenage daughter, Shayla, from a previous marriage. In an Instagram post shared ahead of his appearance in court, the “Fast & the Furious” actor said he was walking into some extremely testing times in his life. “I’m about to walk into something that has put me in the darkest place… A place that I haven’t been able to shake in almost 2 years.” He went on to ask “prayer warriors” to generously write out prayers covering him “mentally, emotionally, spiritually and psychologically.”
Online, fans have sided with the former model and his requests, many of whom have cited that “nothing he’s asking for is unreasonable.” However, where things get murky for him, in regards to garnering sympathy, is the fact that fans are already anticipating an emotional outburst. The Capricorn vocalist has proven in the past that social media somewhat serves as an open journal for him.
In 2017, the distraught singer posted a video mid-breakdown where he exclaimed, “What more do you want from me?” At the time, he was in the midst of a public fallout with actor Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and in court fighting to retain custodial rights relating to his older daughter. While the moment may have captured his genuine heartache, people online turned it into a running joke with countless memes.
Prior to the news, people were bracing themselves for another round of meltdowns and emotionally charged posts. “Just give him whatever he wants I don’t wanna hear him crying on socials,” commented one person.
Other commentary included: “Here come the tears” and “HE’S ABOUT TO START WITH THESE CRAZY POSTS.” Another person added, “Whew who would have ever thought baby boy life would be this messy in real life.” This year has already been filled with ups and downs for Tyrese following his messy breakup with his most recent girlfriend.
