Rihanna has love on the brain.
In her cover story for Vogue’s May issue, the 34-year-old businesswoman dished about almost everything regarding her internet-shattering pregnancy and relationship with her boyfriend, rapper A$AP Rocky.
In January 2022, the pair revealed that they were expecting their first child together — through a snow-covered photo shoot in Rocky’s old playground in Harlem, New York, months after fans learned that they had rekindled their romance, which dated back to 2013.
“People don’t get out of the friend zone very easily with me,” the Barbados native and ambassador said, referencing the 33-year-old entertainer, whom she’s collaborated with several times over her career and recently on her Fenty Skin brand. “I certainly took a while to get over how much I know him and how much he knows me because we also know how much trouble we can land each other in,” she said.
The skin-care creator recalled working with the “Praise The Lord” emcee for the first time at the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards, during which Rocky grabbed a chunk of the singer’s rear end during a performance of her record “Cockiness.”
“He grabbed my a– on stage. That was not part of the rehearsal!” she said. “I was like, ‘What are you doing!?’ ” While her team prepared for an upset Rih-Rih, the star said let it go. “My manager was like, ‘Oh, God, she must like this guy a little bit. She never lets this sh-t slide,’ ” she added.
However, when the COVID-19 pandemic hit in 2020, the Savage X Fenty founder said Rocky “became my family in that time.” She gushed over their cross-country road trip in the summer of 2020 from Los Angeles to New York, which included barefoot grilling and tie-dyed T-shirts.
“I cooked our food on this little janky grill I bought from Walmart,” she recalled. “I still have it, too. It works like nobody’s business.” The singer said that no matter where they stopped, they always had fun. She added, “I love the simple things but also the grand adventures.”
As far as their relationship, the “Kiss It Better” singer said, “There’s no pretentious my-brand-your-brand bullshit, it’s just us living.” She added, “I just feel like I can do any part of life by his side.”
