‘It’s Not True and It’s Not Fair’: Tamar Braxton Opens Up About Relationship with Ex-Boyfriend David Adefeso, Addresses Rumors of Abuse

It has been about half a year since Tamar Braxton and her ex-boyfriend David Adefeso went through their messy breakup. In September, Adefeso went on a YouTube livestream and accused Braxton of domestic violence. He claimed that she punched him in the jugular while he was driving, causing him to crash his vehicle. Braxton has continuously denied the allegations and has since said nothing but good things about her ex.

Now, in a March 1 interview on “Hollywood Unlocked,” Braxton, pressed by host Jason Lee on the topic, has addressed rumors regarding her ex’s behavior and is slightly opening up about the fight in the car.

Lee, who is Braxton’s friend, did not hold back his disdain for her ex. He said, “I’ve been very vocal to you that I was not a fan of David.” After pointing out how Adefeso acted on screen when Braxton’s ex-husband tried to bring their son Logan home and to tuck him in, Lee asked, “How did you even let yourself get wrapped up in that with him?”

Sticking up for Adefeso, she responded, “I’m a real honest person. And I would be less than a real woman to sit here and say all those things about him are true.”

She continued, “It’s not true and it’s not fair. And I’ve said that. That’s what I mean about the depiction of reality television and Black people. So why is it when a man cares for his woman, concerned about his woman, asks about people that are in her life, protects his woman, why is he called controlling? Why can’t he be looking out for his woman? I don’t really understand that. We all say we want a strong Black man, we want somebody to protect us and love us and when they do that, we openly call them controlling. So what is it that we want here?”

Braxton then discussed how she was “furious” with the way she was portrayed on television, especially on her We TV show “Tamar Braxton: Get Ya Life.” She said, “I hated the show. I find it to be very disrespectful, disregarding.”

She mentioned that the “show was supposed to be another opportunity to show a Black woman” and “how she picked herself up again, how she renavigated her life being a single mom, how she figured out the dating world after being divorced, what she was going to do with her career,” and a multitude of other successful things.

Lee, not satisfied with seeing Adefeso defended by his friend, went on to mention the time her ex was seen hanging out with another woman within the same month that he accused Braxton of abuse. “It hurt,” Braxton replied. Lee followed up with, “Is that the same person you’re describing today?” and Braxton responded, “It is. But that’s not my job. It’s not my job to be rude and hateful and nasty because it didn’t work out and drag him and hang him out to dry. I think what’s happening in the opinions of everyone, is what’s happening because that’s what someone put out there. But my personal experience with him wasn’t horrible.”

Next Lee, now fully warmed up to his character assassination mission, showed a picture of Braxton’s bruised arm that purportedly was caused from her and Adefeso’s altercation in the car. Attempting again to get Braxton to bash Adefeso, Lee asked her, “So that bruise, he grabbed you on your arm, correct?”

After a slight pause, the mother of one responded, “OK, so it’s a lot of variables as to why I can’t give you a direct answer. Number one is the legal aspect. I’m just going to be a thousand with you.” She continued, “That day in the car was a horrible day, and it was a lot of emotions. It was a lot happening. And I’m not making excuses for him. But I’m talking about the experience that we both had with suicide and how hard that was for both of us. And how difficult, in that moment, it was for the both of us to figure out what had just transpired in our relationship, in our friendship, in our family and it was very, very hard.

She added, “It was probably the worst argument I’ve ever been in my life, and I’m pretty sure I can speak for him in that aspect. But I’m going to tell you that David and I were not in an emotionally or physically abusive relationship. But I am going to say that that was the worst argument we’ve ever had in our lives.”

She later said, “I really wish that I had the tools to have a different conversation with him, because, at the end of the day, we were really good friends, and what we experienced was something that was magical, and that’s not the case anymore. I’m not saying that’s what I want it to be. Things happen for a reason. A lot of things have been said and a lot of things have been done. But, at the end of the day, I wish him the best on any endeavors that he has.”
