Killer Mike’s newest Instagram post on gun rights may come at a time when the discussion surrounding weapons is rampant, but it has nothing to do with mass shootings. As a man who regularly speaks up for the Black community, the rapper is advocating for men and women to stand up for their right to bear arms.

“As a member of a group of Americas who have only been free 54 yrs I don’t trust the people who run the country enuff to relinquish my god given right to hunt my own food, defend my own life and resist tyranny by violent means if necessary,” he wrote on Instagram Thursday, Feb. 22. “No American [should]. No Black Americans especially. This message has nothing to do with our current debate but rather to say to Black women and men in particular, buy a rifle, train weekly, vote for those that agree with your right to do so.”

In reference to the blockbuster film “Black Panther,” he added, “Wakanda ain’t real but The Black Wall Street, Rosewood, The Atlanta Riots (1906) and a 100 yr lunching campaign were. Defend your rights or lose them. Love and Respect to all! #RobertFWilliams tried to teach y’all better. The Real black panthers were not unarmed.”

In response, several commenters backed up Mike’s call.

“I stand with you. Intelligent reform is necessary,” someone said. “It takes intelligence to understand that those in power should not ‘out weaponize’ us. If they ‘can’, why can’t’ I?”

“Respect fam💯💯💯💯🤜🏾🤛🏾 #lookingoutformyown,” someone else commented.

“I concur and #salute you sir, @killermike Continue to open our eyes, raise or awareness and our level of thinking. #motivation #respect,” said another person.
