Activist Erica Garner has been declared brain dead following her medically induced coma, her mother told the New York Daily News Thursday. Garner suffered a heart attack over the weekend, which had been triggered back an asthma attack.
“She’s not gone; she’s brain dead,” Esaw Snipes, Garner’s mother said Dec. 28. “Physically, she is still with us.”
A call to Woodhull Hospital’s risk management department went unanswered and the executive administration department responded, “no comment.”
Doctors have said the daughter of Eric Garner, who died in 2014 after a New York police officer choked him, has no chance of recovery. Previously, one of Garner’s workers tweeted the patient was going to be brought out of her coma.
Family members have now been urged to come to Woodhull Hospital to say goodbye to Garner.
The mother of two had her second heart attack since August on Saturday, Dec. 23. The first came following the birth of her second child and at the time, the family had disclosed Garner had an enlarged heart. The 27-year-old’s heart became more strained due to the pregnancy.

Today, Garner’s official Twitter account had told followers she has suffered brain damage. It had encouraged people to pray for the oldest daughter of the NYPD police brutality victim. Since then, the account began retweeting supportive messages.
