After Eric Garner’s death in 2014 at the hands NYPD police officer Daniel Pantaleo, his daughter Erica Garner became a fierce advocate against police brutality. Now she is fighting for her life in intensive care at a New York hospital

A tweet from her “officialEricaGarner” page confirmed the news simply stating “She’s in a coma.” With a follow-up tweet that read: “Ill tweet updates as I have them. please pray for Erica right now.”

According to New York Daily News, Erica, 27, suffered a heart attack on Saturday night that was triggered by an asthma attack. It would be her second heart attack in a matter of months. After giving birth to her second child, a boy, in August, Erica suffered her first heart attack. Her family revealed the young mom learned she had an enlarged heart and her second pregnancy made matters worst.

Erica’s birth mother Esaw Snipes-Garner said her daughter is not doing well but she’s still fighting. Tanya Goode, Erica’s foster mother added to The News, “I was here last night and I’ve been here all day today. Erica is on life support. She can’t breathe on her own. So, she’s not doing well.”

In a statement released by the family today, they thanked others for their prayers and urged them to enjoy their family during the holidays.

“The Garner/Snipes family wants to thank you all for your prayers and support. At this moment there are no updates on Erica’s condition. They ask that you take this holiday to enjoy your loved ones and for self-care. More updates will come as they are available.”

Others have sent their prayers and support to the family on social media.
