Simone Biles Reveals How She Developed ‘The Biles’ After Making History in Rio

On the Aug. 19 edition of “CBS This Morning,” gymnast Simone Biles talks about life after winning five medals at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

The 19-year-old has become the most decorated American gymnast in history at one Olympics — winning four gold medals and a bronze during her stay.

Biles says she grew up wanting to be on cereal boxes and that she is blown away that day has finally come.

“I didn’t think it could happen,” she says.

In addition to dominating the sport, Biles also innovated moves and techniques. She says she developed “The Biles” after an injury during practice.

“I was doing my first pass in my routine — which is just an extra half-twist more,” she recalls. “And one day I landed a little bit short and partially tore my calf muscle. My coach at the time said that if you do a half-twist then it would be an easier landing and it wouldn’t happen anymore.”

She recalls her coach telling her that no one had ever attempted such a move.
