Gabrielle Union’s New Show ‘L.A.’s Finest’ Halts Production After On-Set Accident That Left Black Showrunner Hospitalized

A bad accident occurred Thursday, Feb. 21, on the set of Gabrielle Union‘s new Spectrum show “L.A’s Finest,” which also stars Jessica Alba, and it temporarily shut down production.

According to Deadline, an action sequence shooting went awry when a stunt car hit a cargo crate, which then struck the video village, a place where the director and others sit to watch footage.

Neither Union or Alba was hurt during the crash, but the show’s producers and co-runners Brandon Sonnier and Brandon Margolis were injured.

Margolis was released from the hospital shortly afterward, but Sonnier — who’s one of the few Black Hollywood showrunners — had to remain and was later transferred to another facility. Upon checking his social media pages there’s no word on his current condition, but reportedly his injuries are not life-threatening.

“We are saddened by this incident and send our most heartfelt wishes to our two beloved crew members, hoping their recovery is both swift and complete,” said the head of Spectrum Originals Katherine Pope in a statement on Thursday.

“L.A.’s Finest,” which premieres on March 13, follows Union’s character Sydney Burnett, who was also in “Bad Boys 2” with Will Smith and Martin Lawrence. The third installment of the film “Bad Boys For Life” is currently in production, but, according to IMDb, Union won’t be in it.

As far as the accident on “L.A.’s Finest,” it’s now being investigated by the California Occupational Safety and Health Administration after they were contacted by Mesquite Productions, as well as the L.A. Port Police.

The show was in the final days of production before the accident, and the final day of shooting has been pushed back.
