Percy “Master P” Miller is reportedly suing Privateer Holdings for backing out of a cannabis distribution deal the parties struck in March. Now, the rapper is asking for $25 million in damages and lost profits and is suing for fraud and breach of contract.

Miller, according to documents obtained by TMZ, claims the company didn’t want to work with him at all. Instead, he says they simply wanted to get “an inside look into the urban and hip-hop demographic of cannabis users.”

Originally, Miller, who has joined the growing trend of rappers getting in on the marijuana business, launched Master P’s Trees in November 2016. In March of the following year, he partnered with Privateer Holdings to produce and distribute his products in California, where the drug is legal. The deal was supposed to last for one year and Miller was responsible for promotion and half of the production fees. Miller and Privateer would split the profits evenly and the rapper was due to perform at a July music festival, likely Essence Fest, where the products would make their debut.

However, Miller’s suit claims Privateer broke the deal and now he’s lost out on the money.

When asked about the lawsuit, Privateer Holdings spokesman Zack Hutson told Atlanta Black Star, “It’s nonsense.”

Unlike Master P, one of his fellow rappers hasn’t had any issues making a foray into the business. The Game became part owner of The Reserve, a medical cannabis repository in August 2016. In March, he explained why he decided to venture into the business.

“It’s a dream come true for me, and I simply want to build with the right people and brands so I can be a part of shaping what this industry looks like,” he told Benzinga in March. “It’s exciting to know that my ideas, my words, my voice … make a difference in the industry. That’s the kind of stuff that keeps me inspired to be pushing limits with the best in the biz.”

While The Game continues his dispensary work, Master P has plenty of other businesses he can focus on. KSLA reported the rapper’s professional basketball league, Global Mixed Gender Basketball, GMGB, is bringing a team to Louisiana by the end of the year. Plus, Billboard magazine reported he’s been named the president of Urban Music at Cinq Music.
