Former Fox 2 Detroit anchor Taryn Asher’s messy split from the station has taken another dramatic turn.
Months after the longtime journalist disappeared from the air and later accused her former employer of retaliation, Asher is back in the headlines again.
What initially looked like another contentious local-news departure has now become a public fight involving a federal lawsuit.
However, competing accounts of the newsroom dispute have emerged. Questions also remain about whether Asher faced punishment for misconduct or for repeatedly challenging what she viewed as unequal treatment.
Leaked behind-the-scenes footage is giving viewers a glimpse of the workplace tensions Fox says contributed to her firing.
In the 2023 video, first reported by Deadline Detroit, Asher is recording a PSA when she clashes with an off-camera colleague, reportedly over last-minute script changes.
“See, I mean, I can’t wait for you to go through them all, and then I go through them, because then I’m already getting ready by then,” Asher says.
As the colleague walks away, Asher responds, “I don’t think you are. You’re walking out really angry,” before calling the person a “b—ch.”

The timing is difficult to ignore.
Asher, who worked at WJBK-TV for nearly two decades, is currently suing Fox Television Stations and New World Communications of Detroit, alleging sex discrimination and retaliation, according to the Detroit Free Press.
Fox denies the allegations and says Asher’s own conduct led to her removal.
In an Aug. 14 federal filing seen by Atlanta Black Star, Fox repeatedly characterized Asher’s behavior as “unprofessional,” citing alleged profanity, confrontations and newsroom outbursts.
The company says multiple employees complained about her before she was placed on paid leave in November 2025.
Asher’s lawsuit tells a very different story.
She claims male co-anchor Roop Raj received more guest interviews. She also says he joined conversations that excluded her and received schedule accommodations for his additional show, “The Pulse.”
Asher says managers denied her similar accommodations while she discussed hosting “Let It Rip.”
Her complaint alleges Fox discriminated against her because of her sex, dismissed her complaints and later retaliated against her.
Fox says Asher terminated her for cause after repeated workplace outbursts. The network says her conduct resembled the behavior that led to her 2023 suspension and Employee Assistance Program referral.
The station has also filed counterclaims alleging she failed to return a company-issued laptop after her departure.
Asher is seeking lost wages and benefits, damages for emotional distress and harm to her reputation, punitive damages and attorneys’ fees. She also wants the court to declare that her six-month noncompete began when Fox fired her on Nov. 21, 2025. She says the restriction expired in May.
But Hollywood Unlocked viewers on Instagram largely appeared more suspicious of the video’s release than shocked by Asher’s language.
“Okay it’s not that deep she handled it well if you ask me,” one person wrote. Another added, “That lady was antagonizing her.”
“Other lady sounded way more rude than she was lol,” a third said. “As someone who’s worked in the newsroom … sometimes you hit a limit,” another commenter wrote.
“Coworkers will take you there. I understand,” someone else stated. One user exclaimed, “This is so bold they put this out because she suing them !!” Another declared, “She is suing them .. this is a smear campaign.”
“Who released the footage though,” one person asked. Another demanded, “Give that woman her job back.”
Atlanta Black Star reached out to Fox 2 for comment, but did not immediately receive a response.
Asher is hardly the first prominent anchor to walk away from a network believing the circumstances were unfair.
Talk show host Tamron Hall has said NBC pushed her aside despite strong ratings when the network hired Megyn Kelly.
Hall later said executives had decided they wanted a “different look,” and that her ratings, awards and Emmys could not change their minds.
Don Lemon similarly said he was “stunned” when CNN fired him in 2023 after 17 years. He claimed he learned through his agent instead of directly from management and suggested that “larger issues” were at play.
For Asher, one heated clip may be embarrassing, but it will not decide the larger dispute on its own.
A federal court must now sort through Fox’s claim that it disciplined a repeatedly disruptive employee and Asher’s allegation that a woman demanding equal treatment was ultimately punished for speaking up.
