‘Oh, That Was Close’: Trump’s Agent Stumbles on the Carpet, Turning His Exit Into a Chaotic Scene and Nearly Taking the President Down With Him

Donald Trump must have guardian angels floating around him, saving him from dangers seen and unseen.

Nothing else can explain how he was saved from a disaster at a recent rally among his loyal supporters.

The president made his way through the crowd during a routine exit that suddenly changed when someone tried to take him down.

Cameras captured his slow, deliberate steps as he headed out of the Long Island arena on Aug. 14. What happened next lasted only a split second, but one wrong move could have ended badly.

The president followed his security detail, seemingly unaware that something ahead could turn his exit into an embarrassing spill.

‘He Can Barely Walk’: Trump’s Grand Arrival Unravels After One Near-Stumble—Then Cameras Catch an Even Stranger Moment Behind Him

Slow-motion footage shows the agent stepping onto the carpet first, his foot briefly catching beneath it. Before he could stumble, the material flattened itself out just as Trump reached the same spot.

He narrowly avoided what could have been a nasty fall after the security detail walking just in front of him snagged his shoe on the edge of the rug in front of him.

Remarkably, the flap dropped in an instant, clearing the way. Trump passed through without incident, and both men kept moving as if nothing happened.

People on social media, however, noticed the close call immediately — and they had plenty to say about it.

“Ooh that was close,” one observer wrote, while another focused on Trump’s walk, writing, “His gait is just… Wow.”

“The agent tripping his foot on the carpet almost caused Trump to trip and fall,” a third person noted.

Others blamed the agent’s footwear. “He caught his foot because Trump makes him wear shoes that are 3 sizes too big,” one person joked.

The comment referenced the online chatter about Trump’s preference for the men of his administration to wear a specific style of shoe. It was a surprise as the POTUS predicted each Cabinet member’s shoe size instead of asking.

“If he didn’t have those ill-fitting clown shoes, we might have had a great show,” another critic added.

Trump’s movements also attracted attention as viewers replayed the footage.

The incident happened Friday, Aug. 14, after Trump spoke at the Nassau County Police Academy’s David S. Mack Center for Training and Intelligence in Uniondale, New York,

For Trump, the near-miss touches on something he has been particularly conscious of in public: falling.

The president has previously spoken about his fear of taking a tumble in front of cameras, particularly while navigating aircraft stairs.

“I have to be careful because if I do trip or fall, it’s gonna be the biggest story,” he said in April. “That’s why when I get out of those planes, I walk nice and slowly. I’m not looking to set any speed records.”

In the past, he has pointed to Barack Obama’s agility, worrying that his “bopping” could result in a fall.

Trump has long mocked Barack Obama’s run down Air Force One stairs, despite being impressed. Years later, he revisited the moment on stage, acting out the 65-year-old’s quick steps.

“You don’t have to set any record. Be cool… be cool when you walk down, but don’t bop down the stairs. One thing with Obama, I have zero respect for him as a president, but he would bop down those stairs. I’ve never seen it. Da-da, da-da, da-da, bop, bop, bop.” He’d go down the stairs … wouldn’t hold on” to the railing.

“I guess I could do it. But eventually bad things are going to happen, and it only takes once,” Trump added.

The old clip now carries new irony as he faces increased attention over his own movements on stairs and tarmac.

With cameras capturing nearly every arrival and departure, Trump has reportedly taken extra precautions on aircraft stairs. Reminders on the stairs urge him to watch his step, while he often grips the railing and looks down as he boards or exits planes.

Still, there have been some close calls.

After returning from New York following Game 3 of the NBA Finals in June, Trump appeared to misstep while descending aircraft stairs. Video showed the president nearing the bottom when one of his legs appeared to briefly give way.

He quickly regained his balance and kept walking. Moments later, his stride appeared unsteady again as he crossed the tarmac.

Another video captured Trump carefully descending the stairs after arriving at Ellsworth Air Force Base. His left foot appeared to catch, causing him to wobble slightly. He tightened his grip on the railing and continued down while watching his footing.

Attention around Trump’s movements grew after the White House disclosed his chronic venous insufficiency diagnosis last year. Officials called the condition manageable and said it showed no signs of a more serious health problem.

That explanation hasn’t stopped critics from scrutinizing Trump’s gait, his tight grip on railings, and his careful navigation on stairs. The moment gave viewers another reason to watch the 80-year-old more closely.
