The drama has runneth over for the ladies of the ’90s R&B girl group Xscape after member Latocha Scott returned to social media with more details behind their red-carpet fashion blunder. She also shared insight behind her absence from recent shows, seemingly confirming that things between her and her band mates had not been going well for quite some time.
In a lengthy post on social media post shared to her Instagram Stories Wednesday night, the 49-year-old apologized to fans over what had been a few days of speculations over the group’s future and rumors that they may have disbanded after Latocha announced that she would be distancing herself from the other ladies — Kandi Burruss, Tameka “Tiny” Cottle, and Tamika Scott — following a dispute with a promoter.
However, the singer explained, “in this new space, I won’t be silenced by who has the bigger following. If I don’t say anything I’m dragged, and If I do say something I’m dragged. So here it goes….”
Readers may remember the award-winning quartet accepted the “Lady of Soul” honors at this year’s Soul Train Awards in Las Vegas. However, while all the ladies appeared wearing similar champagne-colored dresses, LaTocha wore a bright green gown accessorized with a gold belt. The singer initially wrote that she “didn’t get the memo” before adding, “but everyone still looked amazing.”
The singer added that “me having my own stylist initially came when the group was at odds with the original stylist about being over charged.” She said, “The group as a whole felt a way about it, so when they decided to use him again, I had already made the decision to work with someone else to avoid the confusion.”
She claimed, “My stylist and their stylist was in contact all week about the performance look,” which was in sync, “so I don’t see how the same info wasn’t shared for the carpet.”
She also alleged, “The reason I am not doing the tour is because the promoter the girls are on tour with threatened my husbands life.” She added, “The promoter then referenced getting my husband’s ‘head touched’ and me being a widow.” She asked, “Would you have gone on tour with him?????” “If that was any of their husbands they definitely wouldn’t have done the tour either, which I would have supported!!!”
She also shared a clip of a video of herself seemingly shading the other women, writing, “People are betting on your silence. NOT THIS TIME!”
The ladies seemingly responded to Latocha’s claims. Tiny shared a clip of the girls rehearsing for their upcoming tour. In the caption, she wrote, “Thru all the bs…we still gone shine! @therealtamikascott carrying her weight & then some! & not too shabby with our first run at #SoftestPlace acapella!” She added, “Pull up on us when we hit your city! Providing nothing but good vibes & vocals!”
Fans appeared disappointed that the sisterhood appeared damaged, many calling out Latocha, including one social media user who wrote, “This is why Kandi stop messing with you. Have you ever stop to think that it’s you not them. Even your sister is still on tour. Just food for thought.”
Another added, “why tf are we still talking about this? wrap this shxt up by midnight. Thanks MGMT” However, some fans still have hope the ladies will come to a resolution, including one fan who commented, “Chile they’ll be alright Xscape ain’t had understanding since 90’s….”
