‘I’m Not Retiring’: Serena Williams Reveals She’s Still Trying to Balance Life Away from the Spotlight In First Appearance Since U.S. Open

As many hip-hop fans know, it’s rare that an emcee announces their retirement and actually sees it through, as seen in cases like Jay-Z, Too $hort, and Mase, to name a few. It seems like famed tennis superstar Serena Williams may follow suit after initially revealing plans to leave her beloved sport last August.

Despite last month’s send-off, Williams said, “I am not retired.” In her first public appearance since her performance in the U.S., Williams told reporters at TechCrunch Disrupt in San Francisco on Wednesday, “The chances [of me returning] are very high,” before adding, “you can come to my house and [see] I have a court,” the San Francisco Standard reported.

The 41-year-old was at the event promoting her eponymous investment company, Serena Ventures, when she shared, “I didn’t even think about the whole retirement,” following her final match.

During her last game, Williams dominated, defeating Danka Kovinic in the first round and Anett Kontaveit in the second before falling to Australian player AjlaTomljanovic in the third round.

She continued, “I still haven’t really thought about it. But I did go on the court the other day and [realized] for the first time in my life that I’m not playing for a competition, and that felt very weird.” She added, “It was like the first day of the rest of my life, and so far, I am enjoying it. But I’m still trying to find that balance.”

Though she is still working hard, creating opportunities for others through her firm, Williams is taking some much-needed rest. Last month, Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr.’s mommy gave fans a sneak peek into her weekend after the memorable game.

In a heartwarming photo, the four-time Olympic gold medalist was spotted comfortably catching a few Zs in her bed with a stuffed animal beside her as a Moana blanket covered her body. In her caption, the star athlete asked her followers, “How was your weekend?” before adding, “This was mine..”

Over her career, Williams has become one of the most decorated female stars, with 23 Grand Slam tournament victories and, perhaps going forward, possibly more.
