After 22 years together and 14 years of marriage, Tia Mowry and her husband Cory Hardrict are calling it quits. The two took to their respective social media accounts to announce their divorce, promising that the two will be on good terms and co-parent their children.
The divorce papers were filed on Tuesday, Oct. 4, with Mowry claiming the reason for the dissolution of their relationship is “irreconcilable differences,” according to TMZ.
Mowry, who has been a staple on television since the mid-’90s, has hired Laura Wasser to represent her in the divorce and is asking a judge to joint physical and legal custody of their two children, 11-year-old Cree and 4-year-old Cairo.
Reportedly, she has asked the judge to take note of her prenuptial agreement and also to dispose of any chance that either party will receive spousal support.
The two 42-year-olds met in 2000 on the set of “Hollywood Horror” and after six years of dating, they got engaged on Dec. 25, 2006, and got married two years later in 2008, US Magazine reports.
Less than eight months ago, Hardrict shared with Atlanta Black Star that his wife was one of the first people to believe in him when he started acting.
“My wife has been my No. 1 supporter,” he said while promoting the debut of his “All American: Homecoming” series, “So, I love my wife. She supports everything I do.”
He shared how Mowry was there when he first moved to “California with like, $70, and sleeping in a studio apartment. She visited all that.”
“So, to see what we’ve grown to become, our wonderful family and how we did it from the ground up and we’re still going … that’s a blessing right there, and I give all honor to God, which is the center of our family,” He added.
Mowry has posted a few messages on social media regarding the recent changes in her life.
On her Instagram Story, she wrote, “Letting go can be painful. But, it won’t hurt as much as holding on to an illusion.”
The twin said on her Instagram page, “I have always been honest with my fans, and today is no different. I wanted to share that Cory and I have decided to go our separate ways. These decisions are never easy, and not without sadness.”
“We will maintain a friendship as we co-parent our beautiful children,” she continued. “I am grateful for all the happy times we had together and want to thank my friends, family, and fans for your love and support as we start this new chapter moving forward in our lives.”
Hardrict also shared a message on his Instagram story which made fans wonder if he was the cause of the breakup.
“Acting off of emotions will cost you every time,” it said.
“Yeah Cory is the guilty party lol,” one fan tweeted.
“Nah what did Cory Hardrict do… cause Tia Mowry is an unproblematic fav,” another fan tweeted.
“Wow, Tia and Cory getting a divorce now? Someone please tell Cory it’s nothing but wigs and lies out in these streets! He better fix it and fix it fast! That’s 4 divorces I’ve heard for the day now…what is going on? #TiaMowry #CoryHardrict.”
