Ciara was in New York City for the annual fashion extravaganza known as the Met Gala, held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The “Rooted” singer was in town for the star-studded event, where she and other high-profile celebrities and entertainers have blown everyone away with outlandish and memorable dresses, suits, hairstyles and more.
In preparation for the big night, the Grammy Award-winning vocalist decided to practice her best interpretation of TikTok’s “A Bay Bay” challenge. It incorporates moving your legs up and down in a smooth manner to appear as if you’re sliding across the floor. Fans also call it the #MoonWalkChallenge, in reference to Michael Jackson‘s signature dance move.
On Monday morning, CiCi hit the streets vibing to a mixed track from Jersey Anniversary, which samples Hurricane Chris‘ “A Bay Bay” and “Anniversary” by Tony! Toni! Toné!.
For the post’s caption, she wrote, “The morning of the Met Gala Energy. #Moonwalkchallenge #Ayebaybay #NYC.”
Ciara’s fans were left in awe at the 36-year-old having an impromptu dance session in the middle of the street. A bestie of Ciara, La La Anthony, wrote of how her friend had not taught her the moves. Anthony wrote, “I asked you to teach me this!”
“Ok, this is the energy we needed on a Monday,” said another.
“Of course you can do this effortlessly! Get it!”
“Imagine walking down the street in NY and seeing Ciara dance!
“Yes ma’am. Cannot wait to see your look, book.”
“You win this trend.”
Many brought up the R&B diva’s various titles and accolades, including “best female dancer,” a title given to her over the years, especially after her 2018 “Level Up” video. But CiCi has been called the “footwork queen” since the early 2000s.
“So smooth. Have always been,” said one person, while another said, “Ci you the dancing guru.”
Most noticed the mother of three performed her rendition of the “A Bay Bay Challenge” in the middle of a crosswalk, while the sign counted down from number eight to one and flashed a red hand meaning to stop. One person said, “The fact the crosswalk was a count down is everything,” wrote one person. Another wrote, “She makes dancing look easy.”
A handful also commented on the cream-colored sweatsuit and matching shoes Ciara wore, including one who said, “I love this woman styleeeee.”
Using heart-eye and fire emojis, another added, “Ci Ci is always a mood.”
