Veteran comedian Mo’Nique wants her message that she is sticking to her allegations against some of Hollywood’s most prominent players, including Oprah Winfrey, Lee Daniels and Tyler Perry, to be crystal clear.
Appearing on FOX Soul’s newest series, “Turnt Out with TS Madison,” she opened up about her tumultuous relationship with the trio and claimed she had a phone recording of Perry in which the “Alex Cross” star admitted, “What I did to you was wrong.”
However, Perry later changed his story. Mo’Nique said, “Then he called back while we were on the phone and he said ‘No, I changed my mind. I will meet with Mo’Nique but not with her husband, and then she had to apologize to me and Oprah Winfrey for saying we had anything to do with ruining her career.’ Now that was recent.”
After her interview, “The Parkers” star shared the segment on her Instagram account where she spoke to Perry directly, writing, “Eventually the people will see, listen and do something about you not keeping your word.” In all caps, Mo’Nique wrote, “ I AM NOT GOING ANYWHERE.” Her hashtags included the saying, “what’s done in the dark always comes to the light,” and “the truth will set you free.”
The 54-year-old thanked Madison for her “courage” and “bravery.” She added. “KEEP SHINING YOUR LIGHT! I LOVE US 4 REAL!”
Social media users flooded the comments section with support. Online influencing page terrell.and.jarius wrote, “This situation, this courage, this unwavering choice to be brave, will be felt for generations to come.” It added, “Doors will be opened for so many for this very sacrifice from you! A real BLACK QUEEN.”
“We shouldn’t have to die to be heard, loved, and validated. Thank you auntie for your consistent bravery and demand for accountability,” wrote another Instagram user. A third person said, “Monique I stand behind you forever !!!!!!!!!” That person added, “Don’t stop trying to get your message across!!!! We have to hold our own people accountable !!!”
As previously reported, Mo’Nique’s feud with Perry and the aforementioned Hollywood big wigs stemmed from contractual obligations that were reportedly not met when the actress chose her family over promoting Daniel’s critically acclaimed film, “Precious,” during which Mo’Nique was promised $50,000 and five percent of the movie for her role as Precious’ abusive mother, May.
Mo’Nique maintained for years that she was being asked to do things she was not “contractually obligated to do.”
She also took issue with Oprah, whom she said: “stayed quiet and said nothing” after reports that Mo’Nique was “difficult” to work with. Perry, whom Mo’Nique claims she’s never worked with, reportedly also engaged in the negative narrative. Mo’Nique has maintained that the incident has cost her fame and fortune.
The “Phat Girlz” star said both Al Sharpton and Kevin Hart had heard the recording. Both men reportedly said they were told by Perry, “I don’t want to revisit that.”
