‘Why They Have to Kill Her Like That’: Jada Pinkett Smith Reveals the Reason Behind Her Brutal Death Scene In ‘Scream 2’

Jada Pinkett-Smith disclosed on Feb. 16, during the second installment of her story-time session that she’s participating in on Instagram the reason why her character was brutally murdered during her cameo appearance on “Scream 2.”

“Scream 2” follows the lives of Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell) and other survivors of the Woodsboro murders, which occurred in the franchise’s first movie. In the sequel, Prescott attends a fictional college, Windsor College, in Ohio. Things start to take a turn for the worst after killings begin to arise in the college town by an unknown person wearing a Ghostface costume.

In the Instagram post, Pinkett-Smith, who appeared in the opening credits of “Scream 2” as the character Maureen, alongside Omar Epps, explained why the 1997 film was a fun experience.

While showcasing the movie clip, she said, “I’m a huge horror film fan… So ‘Scream’ was a whole lot of fun. One of the reasons why I did ‘Scream’ and did that cameo is because I love horror movies.”

As the recording continued, the actress disclosed why her character’s murder, which happened in a movie theater with the character being stabbed numerous times, was gruesome. Pinkett Smith said, “I know there’s a lot of chatter Twitter like ‘why they have to kill her like that,’ but I asked for that.”

While mentioning her discussion with “Scream 2” director Wes Craven, she added, “One of the things I always hated in a horror film is that the killing scenes always look unrealistic. I asked Wes Craven, ‘Let’s like really do this; really give it to me. I want this to be an excruciating brutal scene to watch.’ And so that’s what we did.”

Toward the end of the clip, the scene then transitioned to Regina Hall’s similar parody role in “Scary Movie.” While viewing the video, Pinkett Smith is seen bursting into laughter and saying as the recording comes to a close, “This is hilarious. This is the first time I actually watched Regina do that scene.”

In addition to the upload, Pinkett Smith shared the caption, Story time with Jada Scream 2! Why was my murder scene so brutal?!?”
