‘She Apologizing Cause She Got Caught’: ‘Real Housewives of Salt Lake City’ Star Facing Backlash for Resurfaced Racist and Anti-BLM Posts

Real Housewives of Salt Lake City” star Jennie Nguyen apologized for her alleged racist Facebook posts that resurfaced online on Jan. 19.

The said posts, which consisted of memes and photos, were shared in 2020 on Nguyen’s now-deactivated Facebook page at the height of Black Lives Matter protests and riots following George Floyd’s slaying on Memorial Day of that year.

Several uploads the reality star posted condemned the protests, riots, and BLM movement. One post that Nguyen shared in September 2020 read, “I’m sick of people saying cops need more training. You had 18 years to teach your kids it’s wrong to loot, steal, set buildings a blaze, block traffic, laser people’s eyes, overturn cars, destroy buildings and attack citizens. Who failed who?”

Another upload that was shared a month before shows an image of Ken Jeong’s character Señor Ben Chang from “Community” with the caption, “If you follow the officers orders, you won’t get shot.” Following the massive backlash from her alleged posts, Nguyen addressed the situation later that day in a statement shared on her Instagram page.

The 44-year-old began by informing her followers about her state of mind when posting those uploads. She said, “I want to acknowledge and apologize for my deleted Facebook posts from 2020 that resurfaced today. At the time, I thought I was speaking out against violence, but I have since learned how offensive and hurtful my words were.”

She wrapped up her statement by sharing she deactivated her Facebook account and trying to learn other people’s perspectives. “It’s why I deactivated that account more than a year ago and why I continue to try to learn about perspectives different from my own. I regret those posts and am sincerely sorry for the pain they caused.”

As Nguyen’s apology began circulating on social media, many claimed the reason why the “RHOSLC” star is apologizing is because she got caught and is facing public scrutiny for her actions.

“She Apologizing Cause She Got Caught.”

“Stop using that “hate is a virus” bulls–t because you knew what you meant and you stood by it. Only apologizing now because you are getting bashed rightfully so.”

“Okay but why wait until it’s resurfaced to apologize? why not apologize when you “came to the realization.’”

“No sweetie this was little over 2 years ago not something you tweeted as a child don’t apologize cause we don’t believe you ! Stick by your words and post.”

Nguyen’s apology comes weeks after calling out her “RHOSLC” cast mate Mary Cosby for complimenting her “slanted eyes.” In the Jan. 2 episode, Nguyen expressed how Cosby’s comments came off as racist in a confessional.

She said, “It is insulting to our Asian culture to call me that, and it comes across as racist. And it’s shocking cause Mary should be more educated and understand it’s not appropriate to say stuff like that.”

Later in the episode, Nguyen told Cosby while attending a party with the other ladies how the 49-year-old needed to take responsibility for her what she says. “You’re an adult. Take some responsibility. Right now, there is a lot of Asian hate. Take responsibility for your words.”

There has been no official reaction from the Bravo network about Nguyen’s resurfaced posts or whether her position as a housewife on the reality show is affected.
