Tiffany Haddish Reveals Reason Why She’s Putting Motherhood On the Back Burner for A While

Tiffany Haddish is taking a little more time before she considers growing a family.

This past summer, the actress revealed that she was interested in adopting a child not only to bring a new addition to her family, but she also wants to take this route because she was also placed in foster care as a child. However, it looks like work has taken Haddish’s focus and she’s now pumping the brakes on adoption for a bit.

She told Us Weekly on Nov. 15, “I had to put a pause on that [adoption] process because my business has picked up, and I feel when you take a child [in], you really need to be able to focus on them.” Haddish said her friends tried convincing her that now that she’s reached celebrity status she can afford to get some help with raising a child when she’s working.

While the increase in her finances is helpful, the 41-year-old made it clear that there’s a bigger reason for her decision. “I want to raise it, I want to raise the child. I want to give the child my knowledge and my love,” she said with a giggling tone. She went on to explain why waiting to start the adoption process would be a better option for her at this time in her life.

“So I want to finish up a few more things, so that I can really focus. It’s one thing to have a dog and a garden and take care of that. But to have another human being that needs me and that I’m responsible for. I want to be present. I want to be all the way present. I don’t want somebody else doing that work for me.”

Currently, Haddish does not have any children, but has said in the past that she’s donated eggs to a donor facility when she was younger in order to get more money to survive. She told E! News Daily Pop in May that she was 21 years old when she made the decision.

Being the comedian that she is, she took the opportunity to crack a joke about the situation. “So who knows. I might got some kids out here in these streets. I doubt it, though, because I never got the bonus. Maybe somewhere, though, in cryo somewhere,” she said referring to a cryobank which is a facility that stores human tissues like sperm and eggs.

At the moment, Haddish is dating Common, 49, and it’s not clear if he’s open to going through with adoption; the rapper-actor has one 23-year-old daughter named Omoye Lynn.
