As Hot Girl Summer continues, several of Hollywood’s baddest women are proving to the world that they don’t need long tresses to be fine! From big chops, to going completely bald, these five women are feeling themselves and spreading that confidence to their social media followers.
Up first, there is the Living Legend, as her sister Tamar Braxton would call her: Toni Braxton. This R&B singer has never been scared to put scissors to her hair and rock a short pixie cut, which she did for a while last year. However, this year, in February, she decided to go for a more daring look and cut her hair even shorter to her scalp while also dying it a bright ash blonde color. This look seems to have been a real confidence booster for Braxton because since debuting the style, she’s been hitting her fans with many IG photos of her wearing nothing but a bikini or cut-out and tight dresses!
We gots to breathe Toni, so let us breathe, please.
Jada Pinkett Smith, one of the “it girls” of the ’90s, has, like Braxton, always been comfortable wearing a short hairstyle, whether it be for TV and movie roles or her everyday life. In her younger days, she wore braided bobs, blonde pixie haircuts and straight bobs and has switched up her looks for back-length braids and longer straight-haired looks. Over two weeks ago, she revealed her new bald look to her followers and explained that she was inspired by her 20-year-old daughter Willow Smith, who is no stranger to shaving her head bald. While her daughter may have coached her through the cut, Jada admitted that “it was time to let go.”
Rihanna aka Bad Gyal Rih Rih has been taking her fans back down memory lane with her new pixie cut, which she debuted on June 29 just in time for Pride Month. When Rihanna’s first single “Pon De Replay” dropped, she was just in her early 20s and rocked long light brown hair. But as she continued to thrive in the industry, her hair got shorter and shorter until it reached a pixie cut in her 2007 single “Take a Bow.” After a while, she began to experience different hair colors, lengths and looks, making it clear that she can pull off just about any look.
R&B singer Ari Lennox started the new year with a fresh cut. The R&B singer, whose signature look usually consists of her styling her beautiful and thick hair, decided it was time for a new look and chopped her hair to a tapered cut. While she does wear her natural hair still, the “Shea Butter Baby” singer has been trying out new things with her hair to include wigs and braids. But Lennox did not stop there, she linked up with a trainer and visibly started to slim down by the end of January. Now she’s popping out with these fire Instagram pics, and every once in a while will break the internet.
Gabrielle Union is all smiles after debuting her new curly pixie cut on July 23. Union, who is not only a well-known actress but who also has her own haircare line for “textured hair,” is another person who has switched up her look quite often. She’s had the long hair, the bob, the braids and the short tapered natural cut, but she’s never had her hair this short. Union explained on her Instagram post that she wanted to do something a little different this summer. She said, “The movies always show women cutting their hair when all is lost but I wanted to know the feeling of making a change when things are gravy. It hits different and its foreign to me but I ❤❤❤ this new new.” Fans and friends praised the mother of one for her new hairstyle by leaving over a million likes and 18,000 comments.
