Common Revealed How In Their Year Together His Girlfriend Tiffany Haddish Has Helped Him ‘Evolve’ Into a Better Man

Common disclosed on Wednesday, July 21, that his girlfriend Tiffany Haddish has assisted him in becoming a better man during an interview with the PEOPLE Every Day podcast. The couple confirmed last year that they were officially dating after months of speculation.

The 49-year-old said since being in a relationship with Haddish, he has “evolved” in knowing and loving who he is as a person. “I think one of the important things about relationships for me has been to really know myself more and love myself and be able to express the things that I want. I’ve evolved and gotten to that place.”

Common also shared that listening to and comprehending the comedian’s side of things when having a discussion also helped their relationship blossom.

He explained, “I listen and take things in and try to do my best to understand. I listen to what Tiffany would have to say about how she feels about something and just try to understand it instead of always having an answer.”

As the legendary rapper’s conversation about his relationship wrapped, he admitted that being with an individual that “supports” your “purpose” and “vision” while also pushing you to be a “better” person makes falling in love worthwhile. “It’s about really just being in a relationship where you can grow and you really support each other’s purpose and vision. I’m making you better, you’re making me better, and you can have fun.”

Last July, Haddish confirmed that she and the Grammy Award-winning artist were dating during an interview with American television personality Steve-O on his podcast, “Steve-O’s Wild Ride.” The “Girl’s Trip” star stated while sharing details about the pair’s similar haircuts, “I am in a relationship…Yeah, we’re twins now. I’ve been talking about cutting my hair for years and then when I went to the doctor, it kind of like solidified it like ‘Yeah, I should probably just.. I’m just gonna cut it all off.’ “

Haddish, who debuted her shaved head a month before announcing the news, claimed that Common thought the actress’ new look was “beautiful.”

“He said it was beautiful. He’s like, ‘Wow, you did it, man. You’ve got a lot of courage. You look so beautiful. I love it.’ And I’m like, ‘Ahh, put your head on my head.’ “

The couple initially met in 2019 while working on”The Kitchen,” a film about New York gangsters’ wives running their husbands’ operations in Hell’s Kitchen during the 1970s.
