‘Get a Room’: Gabrielle Union and Dwyane Wade Cuddle Up In the Cold During Valentine’s Day Vacay

Valentine’s Day weekend was officially a go for the Wades! Gabrielle Union and Dwyane Wade packed their cold-weather gear and left California behind for a few days of snow.

The couple cozied up while bundled up as they posed on their V-Day cabin balcony with a beautiful wintry mountain scene as their backdrop. Union kept her look warm and simple, with a makeup-free face and cornrows while wearing a huge black puffer coat with a feather-trimmed hood. Wade went with a less layered look, opting for a gray sweatshirt and baseball cap.

Union, whose natural beauty is on full display in their vacation photos, has said it took a while for her to grow to fully love herself, because “when you’re so thoroughly surrounded by a Eurocentric standard of beauty, your relationship with yourself and your looks can be a really precarious road.”

“At the beginning of my career, when I was doing modeling gigs in Los Angeles, I wasn’t pushed to look any type of way. I had edited myself for so much of my life that they didn’t really need to do anything,” she shared this month in an op-ed for Elle.

“What I found was that they were not prepared if I didn’t come with my hair already done fresh from the salon. They wouldn’t have hair stylists who knew what to do with 4B hair,” she continued. “And most of the time the makeup artists wouldn’t have the right color foundation. It wasn’t until much later, when I was acting and doing photo shoots, where you could see Photoshop minimizing my butt or bringing in my weight.”

Union certainly hasn’t looked back since beginning her self-love journey and it has been paying off. “Something happened around my 40s where I just fell in love with myself. I emptied my basket of f—s. And that’s the attitude I hope to pass onto my daughters —shameless self-love.”

Fans had nothing but words of encouragement for the couple taking a little time away from their kids to enjoy each other for the holiday.

Wade and Union tied the knot in 2014. The couple share one daughter together, Kaavia, and Wade has three older children from previous relationships, Zaya, 13, Zaire, 19, and Xavier, 7, in addition to raising his 19-year-old nephew, Dahveon Morris, in 2011.

Independent journalism doesn't fund itself.

We hope this story was worth your time. For over 14 years, Atlanta Black Star has stayed Black-owned and independently run. We didn't get here by waiting on ad budgets that were never built to prioritize us. Our readers did that.

Corporate support for Black media has always been thin. Outlets like ours get roughly 1% of the $170 billion spent on U.S. advertising each year, and that margin is shrinking further as advertisers walk back the DEI-linked commitments they made in 2020. That's the backdrop. It's not why we're asking.

We know a request for support isn't why you came here. But without readers choosing to fund this work directly, the depth of reporting we can do at home and abroad shrinks along with everyone else's. If you're not in a position to give, that doesn't change how much we value you as a reader.

If you are able to, a recurring contribution does more for us than a single one-time gift, because it lets us plan the next investigation instead of just the next invoice. It takes about 30 seconds, no long form, no account. Thank you for continuing to support independent journalism and freedom of the press.
