‘This One Going Down In History Books’: ‘Verzuz’ Season 2 Returns with Jeezy and Gucci Mane Slated to Take the Stage In Premiere

Verzuz,” the popular music battle that saved many from sheer boredom when the COVID-19 pandemic began, is back with season 2. The first battle set to take place will feature two artists no one ever thought would be in the same room together, considering the nature of their longstanding feud.

On Sunday, Nov. 15, the official Instagram page for the popular music event announced that Jeezy and Gucci Mane would be taking the main stage. “IT’S OFFICIAL ‼️ Welcome to #VERZUZ season 2,” the page captioned the post of an event flyer.

The contest was initially set to take place between Jeezy and T.I. Still, the self-proclaimed “King of the South” showed no hard feelings to the last-minute change when he reposted a photo of the flyer. “Now THIS…. Is what the people wants to see,” he captioned the post.. “Trap Muzik salutes y’all.”

Even in a year that has been nothing short of surprises, anything having Jeezy and Gucci Mane in the same title still seems nothing short of impossible. For those unfamiliar with the two rappers’ timeline, back in the day, both men appeared on the 2005 Zaytoven-produced track “So Icey.” Gucci and Jeezy wanted rights to the song to put it on their albums, but the record ultimately went to Gucci Mane for his 2005 album “Trap House.” This meant that Jeezy could not put it on his project “Let’s Get It: Thug Motivation 101” or even get paid for his feature.

The dispute led to several diss tracks, including a song from Jeezy titled, “Stay Strapped,” which allegedly put a bounty on Gucci’s chain. Shortly afterward, four men broke into a house Gucci was visiting. The incident resulted in a shootout that left one man, Pookie Loc, dead, and Gucci Mane charged and later acquitted of murder.  Over the next few years, both camps would be involved in various disses and fights.

Both men confirmed their appearance in the event, sharing the flyer on their Instagram pages. Jeezy captioned his post “SAY lil guwop SEE YOU ON THE 19th. DON’T SEND YA CLONE! BIG SNO⛄️ #R2.” While Gucci captioned his post, “Tell buddy Get ready Thursday Nov 19 @verzuztv Trap God vs Snowcone ❄️ 🥶.”

No word on what or who made the two quash their feud. However, fans appeared to be highly excited about the event as they took to social media to express their thrill over the news and, of course, to crack a few jokes.

One person teasingly wrote in the comments section under the official “Verzuz” Instagram page, “How much y’all payin for security tho?” Another person commented, “Idk how y’all made it happen but I’m ready 💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽.”

A third user wrote, “This one going down in history books 🔥🔥🔥🔥.”

“This will be bigger than Monica & brandy,” a fourth person commented.

The battle between Jeezy and Gucci Man is set for Thursday, Nov. 19, 8 p.m. EST. The presentation can be viewed on Instagram on the official “VerzuzTV” page or on Apple Music.
