Bow Wow Opens up About ‘Always Wanting a Son,’ New Music, and the Song ‘That Got Away’ During Ride-Along with Atlanta Black Star

Multiplatinum-selling rapper Shad “Bow Wow” Moss got his first taste of driving his own car, a Nissan 350Z, at 15. While that first-car experience was life-changing, it was Bow Wow’s chance behind the wheel of another “powerful” ride that gave him an entirely different view. Always a lover of nice cars, Bow Wow says he first became a fan of the three-wheeled Polaris Slingshot while riding in his friend’s Polaris rental in Miami. The new father shared more as he took Atlanta Black Star for a spin, while also opening up about new music on the way and becoming a father for the second time.

“The sound of it is what got me first,” the multi-platinum-selling rapper said. “Going under a tunnel and you’re pushing it, it sounds like you’re at like a Formula racing track, like yeowww!”

During Atlanta Black Star’s ridealong with Bow Wow near Chastain Park, the “Growing Up Hip Hop: Atlanta” star shared that he’s getting ready to deliver more new music to his fans.

He recently dropped the songs “Met on Collins” and “D.W.M.O.D. (Dealing With My Own Demons),” the latter in which he revealed he just welcomed a baby boy. The artist also has a 9-year-old daughter, Shai Moss.

The new dad says he’s “excited” for his bundle of joy and that he’s always wanted a son.

“It’s gonna be exciting to see what he wants to do as he gets older,” Bow Wow shared. “I’m hoping sports, because Shai is more of the entertainer side of me.”

Bow Wow chose to reveal the birth of his child to fans via the new track rather than an interview because he typically doesn’t chat with reporters about personal topics.

“The best thing for me to do was hit the studio and express my feelings through music and through song, and I felt good afterward,” Bow Wow said.

The rapper plans to drop two new albums in the near future, with each showing different sides of his musical style.

“My next album will be like a specialty album, more of the relationship Bow, more of the records that people love from me, the heartbreak stuff,” Bow Wow said. “The other album will be more of the ’Fresh Azimiz’ Bow, that’s gonna be more of your rap, more of your bars, more of your club records.”

Looking back on his music career thus far, Bow Wow reveals there’s one song he regrets letting slip through his fingers. “I’m listening to the beat and I’m like, ‘man, this record is so special,’ ” the rapper said. “The beat is telling me that the song is magical and it’s gonna be a smash.”

But he says the words he needed to write couldn’t come to him at the time, so he passed on the beat. That song later became Wale’s “Lotus Flower Bomb” featuring Miguel. Bow Wow says it was meant to be.

“Everything is not meant for everybody, and that track was meant to land in Wale’s hands, and he did a terrific job with it and made a hit record,” he shared. “So, maybe it was better off in Wale’s hands than mine, because I was too stuck when I got the beat I didn’t know what to write to it.”

As he works on the upcoming projects, Bow Wow said he’ll keep unveiling singles for his fans to enjoy in the meantime.

“I’m dropping them quick, like I’m not waiting for a video to get to a million views on my YouTube page,” Bow Wow said. “I’m waiting for it to get to, like, 150 or 200 [thousand], and I’m putting out another one and watching them just grow.”
