Tamara Braxton’s We TV reality show “Tamar Braxton: Get Ya Life” made its debut last week and caused quite the stir, considering that it may have contributed to the singer’s alleged suicide attempt in July 2020.
At the time of the incident, Tamar’s now-estranged fiancé, David Adefeso, told dispatchers in his 911 call that Tamar had taken an unspecified amount of prescription pills that she used to treat depression. He also claimed that Tamar had been drinking and was having issues with “the network, the company she’s working with, and they did something today.” The Grammy-nominated singer was reportedly trying to get out of her contract for the upcoming docuseries.
The “All the Way Home” songstress has also expressed in that past that she was not comfortable with her portrayal on television. And during many scenes on her show, Tamar appeared visibly awkward being filming while trying to create new music on her own for the first time. Another star sharing her discomfort was singer and former reality star K. Michelle.
The “Love and Hip” franchise alum recently admitted during an Instagram Live that she watched “Get Ya Life!” The star also revealed that despite their ongoing issues and wanting to “be so ignorant and angry” about the series, she instead got emotional while watching because she has been in Braxton’s shoes.
“So I watched Tamar’s show that Mona [Scott-Young] produced. And I would like to be so ignorant and angry about it, but watching her story? I literally sat on that couch, and I cried because I could relate,” K. Michelle explained. She added, “Pisces are a little bit different, you know? I can’t even be angry, be mad, try to fight with nobody on some stupid sh-t. I can only relate. You know what I’m saying? I can only relate. Because just how she felt, that’s how I felt.”
The “Love ‘Em All” songstress didn’t reveal exactly what scenes she related to, only that she connected with the episode. Throughout the show, Tamar spoke about losing her identity and career — an expression of feeling that may have resonated with K. Michelle. In the past, the singer has opened about not having control over her own career and mishaps with past record labels.
Still, the show of empathy may come as a surprise to many, considering the history between the two ladies. The pair have had their share public back-and-forths. In June, K. Michelle called a Tamar a “muppet,” a “cartoon character,” and accused the songstress of sleeping with super producer Jermaine Dupri’s father and being beaten up by Dupri’s mother as a result. The war of words launched after Tamar and David interviewed with entertainer Ts Madison. When asked whether she’d participate in a Verzuz battle against K.Michelle, the “To Catch a Beautician” co-host responded by ringing a bell and holding her drink up to the camera, implying that she would rather not.
Tamar responded by saying she wasn’t going to give life to anything negative.“I’m in a different place in my life. I don’t want to be a part of any negativity of any kind,” she said at the time. “So I’m going to keep ringing my bell ’cause that’s what works for me.”
