‘I Am So Honored’: Georgia State University’s College of Law Offers Legal Life of Kandi Burruss Course

Kandi Burruss is all about her checks! The 44-year-old reality star from “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” rose to fame in the ’90s as a member of the girl group Xscape. Kandi, who has more than two decades of experience in the entertainment industry, has gone on to release a sex toy line, clothing line, and open multiple restaurants. And now graduate law students at Georgia State University will have the opportunity to study her business decisions through the eyes of the law this fall.

The class will be taught by professor Mo Ivory, a former radio host and attorney. Kandi shared the exciting news alongside a photo of herself in a Tuesday, Aug. 11, Instagram post. “I am so honored that @georgiastateuniversity college of law decided to do a legal course about my life!” she wrote. “Wow!!! Thank you! They will go through the different business & career choices that I’ve made from a legal perspective & that is a lot to go through! Thank you @moivoryshow for making this happen.”

Some people instantly reacted to the announcement and flooded her account with praises. Comments like “Wow!!! That’s Dope Kandi 🔥🔥” and “So happy for you 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾” were written underneath the post.

GSU launched the Entertainment, Sports, and Media Law Initiative in 2018 as a way to prepare law students for the entertainment industry. The initiative offers the “Legal Life of …” series, which started with the Legal Life of Ludacris last year and will continue with a different celebrity each year. The 42-year-old rapper wrote an emoji under Kandi’s Aug. 11 image that read: “👑.”

Kandi and Ivory have known each other for years, and the lawyer explained in a statement on the university’s website that she chose to have her students study Kandi because she has had an amazing career. “I wanted to study a woman this time around, and having worked with Kandi in the past, I knew she was the perfect choice,” she said.

“She handles her business and it shows with her success, but all the while she’s completely approachable and willing to share her lessons learned. I couldn’t be happier for my students to learn the law through Kandi’s career.”
