Bow Wow Says He’ll Retire After Next Album, Then Teases a New Project with Omarion

Bow Wow surprised many people on May 20 when he was revealed as the Frog on the popular singing competition show “The Masked Singer.” Prior to the exciting reveal airing, Bow was a part of a Twitter Q&A on Monday, May 18, and said he’s walking away after his next album. He sent that tweet just one day before he teased a joint project with Omarion.

Bow didn’t say if the project with Omarion would be his last LP. But he brought up his daughter Shai Moss and said his plan to retire has to do with her interest in entertainment.

“@smoss bro, you still considering retiring after the next album you drop?” asked one of Bow’s fans.

“F–k yes! I have to get shai ready she wants to follow in my footsteps so i have to shift my hustle,” he answered. “She next up! We are going to own tv and film. Daddy daughter duo like no other!”

The former “106 & Park” host once said that although he’s been rapping since being a small boy, he never loved it. It was something he relayed to his fans in 2016 through a series of tweets.

Bow told them that he still had his deal with Cash Money Records at that time but had no desire to release new music. His last album was 2009’s “New Jack City II,” although he dropped his “Greenlight 6” mixtape last year.

“My whole life i hated rapping,” Bow tweeted four years ago. “Folks dont know that. I always wanted to be a comedian growing up. I wanted to act … I got songs. Tons. Just not really passionate bout the game.”

“Made the money. Been rapping since 5. New place now,” he added. “I still got my deal. I do what i want. Label cant force me. Paid my dues. I do it when i want. Now aint the time … In 5 months of filming i’ll have made more than half of what these rappers make in that 1 year alone.”

Bow’s career hasn’t slowed despite his not putting out a new LP in 11 years. Some of the films he’s been in are also beloved in certain parts of the Black community, like “Roll Bounce” and “Lottery Ticket.”

In February, vlogging site Recklezz TV sparked a comparison of his movies to Nick Cannon’s, Cannon films such as “Drumline” and “Love Don’t Cost a Thing.” Bow said his releases were far more popular than Cannon’s and resonated with more people.

Speaking to People, Bow Wow talked about his experience on “The Masked Singer,” which Cannon hosts, and further elaborated on retiring from music.

“So I’m looking at dropping two projects before I even consider walking away. When I do get to the point when I want to retire from music, it’s not that I’m retired from music, it’s just that I don’t have to make any new music. I don’t have to buckle down for four months and do an album, I can do a verse with somebody or I can always tour. I have a catalog. Performing music, I will never leave it.”

Bow Wow was the 3rd runner-up while “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” star Kandi Burruss won the competition.

Bow’s tweet about the Omarion project came on Tuesday, May 19, and it could be a sequel to their 2007 joint album “Face Off.”

“Bow Wow / Omarion 2020,” Bow tweeted.
