‘I Thought This Was You’: Ashanti’s IG Shoutout to Her Sister Makes Fans Do a Double Take

Ashanti and her little sister Kenashia “Shia” Douglas are clearly spitting images of each other.

The 39-year-old singer posted a gorgeous photo of her sister to social media last week, taking to Instagram Friday, April 3 and wishing her baby sister a happy 31st birthday. Fans quickly mistook Shia for Ashanti.

“Happy Birthday to my beautiful amazing sister… I love you more than anything… Thank you for being my best friend in this crazy life,” Ashanti wrote. “I couldn’t imagine it without you.. thank you for always being by my side and behind the scenes… for all of your creative input and energy. I am beyond proud of everything that you have overcome … Screaming Happy Birthday!!! I love you!!! 🥳🥳🥳❤️”

The “Rain on Me” singer also attached a photo that showed Shia rocking blond hair and shimmer attire. Fans automatically mixed up Ashanti’s sister for Ashanti.

“Damn I thought this was you 😩🦋”

“She’s your twin”

“I thought that was you!! 😫”

“She’s so gorgeous your twin Happy Birthday @liltuneshi”

“Happy birthday Shia! We love you boo ❤️ looking just like your sister”

“Twins!”

Ashanti and Shia are eight years apart in age and share the same mother and father.

Shia actually collaborated with Ashanti on her PrettyLittleThing X Ashanti swimsuit collection that launched last July. She served as the creative director. The line initially launched with 74 different swimwear pieces, ranging from sizes 6 to 26 and catering to several body shapes.

Ashanti told BET last June, “This collection is for everyone! The confident girl, the sassy girl, the classy girl, the sexy girl, the turn-up girl … the girl that doesn’t follow the crowd but stands out in the crowd.”

Shia helped create the swimsuit line based on different places to which Ashanti had traveled, including Jamaica, the Caribbean and Turkey.

“I travel around the world to so many tropical places,” said the Grammy Award-winning singer. “I wanted pieces that felt exotic and global. I wanted pieces that would empower women. … We created the line wanting to give options, so you can mix and match pieces and create a bunch of different looks.”
