‘It Shouldn’t Be Money’: Waka Flocka Explains Why He’s Strongly Against Prenups

Waka Flocka isn’t a big fan of prenuptial agreements. It was something he revealed last year during an interview when he and his wife Tammy Rivera spoke with Ebony magazine. He’s since doubled down on that stance in a recent conversation.

“I just didn’t want to share nobody’s opinion,” said Waka in 2019. “The person I truly love, the person I truly want to be with, I don’t want nobody trying to talk me out of it. ‘Get a prenup, get this and all this.'”

“I’m like, ‘Why are you thinking about my money and not my well-being?'” he continued. “I notice everybody asks me, ‘You got a prenup?’ I never talk to them again.”

Waka and Rivera were asked about prenuptial agreements on “Dish Nation” during an interview that was posted to YouTube on March 13. At one point, the co-host Gary With Da Tea said he’s in favor of prenups, and Waka explained why he’s not.

“You know what that is? Love don’t stand on the same pedestal as money, and money could never stand on the same pedestal as love,” said Waka at around the 2:00 mark of the interview.

“If you love a person, it shouldn’t be money,” he added. “It shouldn’t be sick, it shouldn’t be fat, it shouldn’t be no color, no shape, nothing. Now for me, if I marry you and I’m this rich guy, you rich too.”

Waka then said couples should focus more on building up each other’s spirits instead of worrying about finances.

“But I’m supposed to be the man that makes your spirit rich,” he explained. “That’s what’s wrong with couples. People look at the money and don’t pay attention to the spirit. That’s a big difference, ’cause I can make my wife’s spirit so rich to the point where she’ll be richer than me financially.”

Waka received an applause from the “Dish Nation” hosts, and at least one person said they admired his perspective on marriage and finances.

“Dude im loving you even more your concept of marriage ON POINTTTTT love you,” someone wrote in the YouTube comments.

Waka and Rivera got married in 2014, then renewed their vows in Mexico last year.
