After being out of the NBA since November 2018, it was announced last week that Carmelo Anthony would be joining the Portland Trail Blazers, and his estranged wife La La Anthony addressed it on social media.
La La has been openly supportive of the hoop veteran since he was traded by the Houston Rockets to the Chicago Bulls, then waived, and had not been picked up by another team until now.
And that’s despite the two of them not being fully together, because in July La La’s rep revealed they haven’t been living in the same house for quite some time — even though they’ve been trying to work on their marriage after splitting in 2017.
In her latest message about Carmelo, La La showed support once again, but she also said the new opportunity is bittersweet because of their 12-year-old son Kiyan Anthony.
“He is his dad’s #1 fan & super excited for this new opportunity…but when it’s all said and done, he’s still a 12yr old that is going to miss his dad 😢🙏🏽🏀Portland you got a great one 🏀🙏🏽#portlandtrailblazers #stayme7o,” wrote the “Power” star on Sunday, next to a photo of Melo and Kiyan.
The 6-foot-8 forward agreed to a non-guaranteed contract with Portland. And it’s been said the team’s president of basketball operations, Neil Olshey, tried to get him on the Blazers since he was with the New York Knicks in 2017. He also tried when Carmelo played with the Oklahoma City Thunder after leaving the Knickerbockers.
“Omg I love seeing this ❤️❤️❤️,” one person wrote under La La’s post.
“I promise Portland is gonna treat him right ! Hope to see you soon too!” wrote another.
“I admire you. How you don’t let your personal misunderstanding come between your son and his Father is gold,” a third person stated. “You’re the good one!!”
In June, Carmelo addressed the talk that he was cheating on La La after he was spotted on a yacht in Europe with a 28-year-old model named Sara Smiri. He said the woman was merely a friend, and her partner was on the yacht as well.
It’s also been reported that Melo fathered a lovechild with a woman named Mia Angel Burks, which he’s never admitted to.
