After initially remaining firm on outing “Married to Medicine” newcomer Buffie Purselle as “infertile,” Dr. Jackie Walters is now sorry for her remarks.
The OB/GYN got lit up online when viewers of the Atlanta-based Bravo series caught a preview for Sunday night’s episode. During Dr. Jackie’s book cover unveiling party she disclosed some personal information that Purselle had shared with her privately.
“To find out the thing most of us grow up wanting to do, you can’t do,” Walters said of having children at the event for her book “The Queen V.” “And Buffie, you can relate. You’re infertile.”
At first, Dr. Jackie told Dr. Heavenly Kimes on “Heaven Help Us” that she “can understand how people could be offended. However, that’s definitely not [the] intention to be ugly or throw shade. I would never throw shade about infertility or breast cancer or anything at all.”
But now, the star is regretting her words.
“I hate that it happened,” she said to Bravo’s The Daily Dish Thursday. “You know, if I could definitely take it back and do it all over again because I really was not aware what Buffie wanted to share. And I can certainly say it isn’t my place to share. But after we had talked about it throughout the group I really thought it was OK.
“And so, certainly being a physician — and, you know, a board-certified physician who takes care of tons of celebrities and people from all over the country — I would not have shared something like that had I thought it was not OK with her,” she continued. “You know, I am sorry. I should have asked her, and I hate that [it hurt her]. That is what definitely bothers me the most.”
Dr. Jackie added that she and Purselle had texted briefly about Mother’s Day and motherhood and that’s what she wound up pulling from in her speech.
“I thought OK.” she said. “And I really didn’t even plan the speech. I just got there in the moment, and I started talking.”
After the preview aired nearly two weeks ago, Purselle fired back on Instagram and denied that she is infertile.
“This was one of the most humiliating and painful moments in my life,” she said on Instagram before noting that “I can and have gotten pregnant many times. I was just unable to carry my babies to full term.”
To Purselle, Jackie’s remarks were made “with malicious intent” and said she “has NEVER offered me a sincere apology.”
Speaking to Bravo, Dr. Jackie admitted that as a physician, she doesn’t always consider emotions involved in health issues.
“I’m desensitized to a lot of it,” she said. The doctor also denied that she had never told Purselle she was sorry, saying she has apologized time and time again.
But much as before, fans are not feeling Dr. Jackie’s explanation.
“Nah she meant to say it PERIOD. I used to like her….”
“Jackie is full of s–ts”
“It’s the deliver Dr. JACKIE.”
