While Meghan Markle has garnered sympathy from many viewers over her emotional new interview, Wendy Williams is not among them.
The talk show host discussed the Duchess of Sussex’s chat with ITV in which Markle admitted she “didn’t get it” when her British friends warned her that the local tabloids would “destroy” her upon marrying Prince Harry.
“You knew exactly what you were doing,” a disbelieving Williams said on the Oct. 22 edition of “The Wendy Williams Show.” “And I applaud her plot-ation on the royal situation. But please, don’t try to garner sympathy from us. You knew what you were doing. … Harry and Meghan have nothing to lose by moving to America.”
Williams then suggested the Duke and Duchess of Sussex split their time between the United States, England and somewhere on the continent of Africa.
“Move to America and live part-time in Africa like you want to do,” explained Williams. “You have to still go back to England. The thing about moving to America is, you’re really kicking the royal thing out of your life. So, have a place in all three places. Have a mansion in Malibu, a big hut, y’know ― I’ve never been to Africa, I don’t know ― a big hotel or wherever you’re gonna live in Africa and then have your royal palace-esque-type place in England.”
Many have been fired up over Williams being unsympathetic toward Markle, who also opened up about the “really challenging” time she’s having as a new mom who is targeted by the press. But others have taken issue with Williams urging Markle, whose mother is Black and father is white, to live in “a hut” on the motherland.

Williams has yet to respond to the criticism.
