‘I Had to Do a Double Take’: Tamar Braxton Has Fans Confusing Her With Sister Traci

Tamar Braxton posted a playful selfie with big sister Toni Braxton to mark the “Un-Break My Heart” singer’s 52nd birthday, but the image has fans mistaking Tamar for Traci Braxton.

“Hot girl bday #sistertrouble ❤️🥰. @tonibraxton I love u with my entire heart #health #wealth #love #watchthis🔮,” read the caption of the Oct. 7 image.

That same day, Tamar uploaded a brief video of a birthday cake bearing Toni’s name with the caption, “It’s been a long ass 6 months!!! I’m ready to Celebrate LIFE!!🙏🏼 #HappybirthdayTONI my best friend sister whom I adore!! Let’s turn up like we do EVERY year wit yo FINE ASS!!! @tonibraxton #livinglegendtonibraxton😂😂😂”

With Tamar’s hair in the sisterly photo styled in loose waves and her head turned to the side, many fans felt Tamar resembled another older sis, Traci.

“Tamar looking like Traci in this pic . Beautiful !!!! Happy birthday Toni !!!!! 🎉🎉🎉”

“@trainwithnay_ I was thinking the same” someone responded.

“Girlll, I thought that was Toni and Traci…Happy Birthday @tonibraxton”

“@tamarbraxton you & Your sister Traci look identical in this pic I had to do a double take❤️”

“Happy bday @tonibraxton I thought @tamarbraxton was @therealtracibraxton”

It’s not the first time the “Celebrity Big Brother” winner has been likened to one of her older sisters. In June, Towanda uploaded a photo of herself and Tamar from earlier in the year with the caption, “Me and my Tay-Mee! @tamarbraxton.”

Upon seeing the image, many fans marveled at the resemblance between the two.

“Carmel and chocolate twins💞”

“Twins! Pretty pretty @itowandabraxton @tamarbraxton.”

“Looking like twins.💕💕”

“Twins 👯👩🏾‍🦱👩🏼‍🦱❤️”

Other than celebrating Toni’s birthday, Tamar has recently been enjoying spending time with her boyfriend, son and her friends. Case in point was a call-and-response singalong session she had at her home that saw her beau David Adefeso bust a move.

“You would NEVER know that my @david.adefeso and I have such as damn ball EVERYDAY!! The fact is that we do! With my Beans and my Loyal friends and crew. Even after a super hard surprising day… we find Joy!! 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼💑💰#happynationalboyfriendday to the BEST boyfriend I’ve ever had🥰🥰🥰 P.s. I DO hope he walks me after the dog in JESUS name🙏🏼💑❤️” Braxton captioned the footage she posted to Instagram Friday.

Democracy needs journalism it can trust.

This election season, the stakes are higher than usual — and so is the pressure on newsrooms to soften their coverage, stay quiet, or just disappear. Independent reporting, the kind that answers to readers instead of advertisers or political pressure, matters more in a moment like this, not less.

For over 14 years, Atlanta Black Star has stayed independent and reader-funded. We have no corporate owner and no shareholders telling us what to cover or how to cover it. That independence is also our biggest vulnerability: nothing protects it except readers choosing to fund it directly.

Newspaper ad revenue has fallen more than 80% since 2005, and local newsrooms are closing at a rate of roughly two a week nationwide. When outlets go under in a moment like this, it's rarely the independent, reader-funded ones that get to stick around.

We know a request for support isn't why you came here. But without readers choosing to fund this work directly, the depth of reporting we can do at home and abroad shrinks along with everyone else's. If you're not in a position to give, that doesn't change how much we value you as a reader.

If you are able to, a recurring contribution does more for us than a single one-time gift, because it lets us plan the next investigation instead of just the next invoice. It takes about 30 seconds, no long form, no account. Thank you for continuing to support independent journalism and freedom of the press.
