False Alarm! Rihanna Reportedly Not Pregnant Despite Diamond Ball Remark About ‘Going to Give Birth to a Black Woman’

Rihanna’s fifth annual Diamond Ball took place in New York City Thursday night, and while the yearly fundraiser was filled with music and stars, a remark the Fenty Beauty founder made on the red carpet is what caught fans’ attention.

The Bajan beauty stopped to speak to Essence ahead of the gala, which serves as a fundraiser for Rih’s Clara Lionel Foundation. The organization, named after her grandparents, was established in 2012 and promotes worldwide education, health and emergency response programs.

While discussing Black women, Rihanna said, “I’m a black woman. I come from a black woman who came from a black woman who came from a black woman and I’m going to give birth to a black woman. That’s who I am. It’s the core of who I am in spirit and in DNA. And I always stand up for what I believe in and who I love and who I know, who I respect.”

Rihanna went on to give credit to her mother, Monica Braithwaite, whom she described as “strong and incredible.” The singer also praised Black women as being “impeccable” and “special” before concluding, “the world is going to have to deal with that.”

But it was the Bajan singer’s comment about being bound to welcome a Black woman into the world that had folks on social media spinning with speculation that she is expecting a baby girl.

“Is that a hint that a baby is on the way? 🙂”

“Ok, so Rihanna is pregnant actually for real! She said ‘I’m gonna give birth to a black woman’ RIP next album, hello lil RiRi 😎”

“Did she just tell us she bouta have a lil robyn around??? @keanaf_”

“She’s gonna give birth to a black woman… congratulations!!!! I think Rihanna is pregnant with a baby girl ❤️❤️❤️”

“I’m I the only one that wonders how she knows she will have a gurl!!!! Hmmmmmm… 👀”

“@rihanna giiiiiiiirl 👀👀👀🥰! Are you pregnant? You are pregnant! Is she pregnant? She is pregnant? Please you are pregnant! I wanting my all life for this moment.”

But while TMZ cited sources who say the “Lemon” performer is not actually expecting, Rihanna has made it clear she hopes to be a mother someday.

Asked in an Interview Magazine conversation by her “Ocean’s 8” co-star Sarah Paulson about her desire to become a parent, Rihanna said she wants to be a mom “more than anything in life.” She did not elaborate further than that.
