Sean “Diddy” Combs was honored by Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms‘ office on Wednesday, and he in turn gave a hefty donation to Morehouse College afterward.
Combs was given the Phoenix Award by the city of Atlanta, which is Atlanta’s highest honor for those those who’ve contributed greatly to the city through community service.
The music mogul then gave a $20,000 check to Morehouse College’s scholarship fund, and afterward he gave students advice, as well as a performance of his hit single “All About The Benjamins.”
He also broke out his signature Diddy dance steps, which the students seemed to love, and they sang along to the lyrics as well.
The 49-year-old acknowledged the day on Wednesday in an Instagram post, where he explained how much love and appreciation he has for the city of Atlanta. The veteran producer Dallas Austin is in the clip as well, and he also talked about Diddy’s history there.
According to the Bad Boy boss, Atlanta was one of the first places that rolled out the red carpet for him, which he sounded really appreciative about.
“Y’all don’t even know,” Combs began. “Atlanta got like half my life. This is the first place I got love at home, but I had to come to Atlanta to get [love first]. Atlanta showed motherf—ers how I liked to be loved.”
He also talked about the party scene in the Southern city and said it prepared him for other parties around the globe.
“Atlanta taught me how to party,” Combs explained. “By the time I got to like Ibiza and other party places, I was so fine tuned from Atlanta.”
