JaVale McGee of the Los Angeles Lakers was the victim of a break-in on Saturday. But he didn’t realize his L.A. home was robbed until Tuesday.
According to TMZ, the thieves got away with at least $200,000 in cash and jewelry after taking two safes. Plus they stole one of his two championship rings McGee won as as a member of the Golden State Warriors in 2017 and 2018.
The goggles he wore in the locker room after one of those championships to keep the champagne from his eyes was also taken.
The crime was captured on McGee’s home surveillance camera, which has been seen by police, but they’ve yet to name any suspects.
McGee is just the latest celebrity athlete to see his L.A. home burglarized in recent years.
In 2018 former Los Angeles Dodger Yasiel Puig‘s home in nearby Sherman Oaks, California, was broken into for the fourth time. And Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Robert Woods’ house was broken into that year as well, which followed a string of other burglaries. Rihanna and Christina Milian‘s L.A. area homes were also robbed more than once.
Thirteen men were arrested for the crimes in November of last year, and police said they discovered evidence that shows more celebs were targeted by the group, including LeBron James and Viola Davis,
McGee has remained silent about the burglary on social media, but his fans have sent their support anyway. And some even had a theory on who may be responsible for the theft.
“Hope you and your family were safe during that robbery,” one person wrote on Instagram.
“Aye man when someone does you like that it’s most likely your inner circle ⭕️ watch for the 🐍 man their everywhere keep pushing big dawg,” a second person followed.
“@Cant believe someone took yo ring tho put in all that work for what it to get taken away 👎🏽🙅🏽♂️,” a third person wrote.
Before McGee joined the Lakers last season and played for the Warriors before that, he was a member of the Dallas Mavericks, the Philadelphia 76ers, the Denver Nuggets, and the Washington Wizards, where he started his career.
