The Atlanta-based MC remembered the late rapper for his philanthropy and Nipsey’s family, including girlfriend Lauren London and mom Angelique Smith, took the stage to accept the award on his behalf.

Tyler Perry’s Moving Speech Has Folks on Their Feet

Tyler Perry discussed how the Confederate origins of his south Atlanta film studio came to be and his rousing speech led to a standing ovation from the crowd.

“While everybody else is fighting for a seat at the table, talking about ‘#OscarsSoWhite, #OscarsSoWhite,’ I said, ‘Y’all go ahead and do that. While you’re fighting for a seat at the table, I’ll be down in Atlanta building my own,'” he said to eager applause.

After collaborating with Billy Ray Cyrus on the remix to “Old Town Road,” Lil Nas X brought the country star to the BET Awards. It was complete with an intro of the duo riding horses into the Staples Center where the show took place.
