For the very first time, the Bad Boy founder talks about the days leading up to Porter’s passing and how she became ill. In January it was revealed the model died from pneumonia, and Diddy implied that she predicted her passing.

“She was unforgettable,” Diddy told writer and friend Dream Hampton. “That day turned my world upside down.”

“Three days before she passed, she wasn’t feeling well,” he added. “She had the flu, and she sent the kids over to my house so they wouldn’t get sick. One night I was checking on her, and she was like, ‘Puffy, take care of my babies.’ She actually said that to me before she died.”

Diddy also talked about his daughter Chance being born just weeks before
D’Lila and Jessie James, and how he and Porter made it through that rough patch of their relationship.

“That betrayal really affected Kim,” said Diddy, who also revealed that he “jumped into mommy mode when Porter passed.” “There were days I thought I may have lost my best friend. The healing took time.”

The 49-year-old has been openly mourning Porter on social media since she passed. He referred to her as his soulmate and confessed he should’ve married her when responding to a fan on Instagram who wondered why they never married.

Diddy also said their union was steeped in trust, which is why they were able to last through some incredibly difficult times when they were together.

“There was total trust,” he told Hampton. “Whenever I was around her, I felt as though God had his hand in it. I always felt like God had sent her. Nobody could love me the way she loved me, especially as, you know, as crazy as I acted. I mean, she loved me through some real s–t.”

Diddy and Porter also shared a son, 21-year-old Christian Combs, and other children such as Quincy Brown, 27, Porter’s son with singer Al B. Sure! and Justin, 25, Diddy’s son with celebrity stylist Misa Hylton Brim.

The May issue of Essence will be out on Friday April, 25.
