Reality television veteran Toya Wright is making it quite clear that she’s not too fond of her eldest daughter’s off-and-on boyfriend, rapper YFN Lucci.
Last week, Reginae Carter and Lucci’s relationship drama bubbled over onto social media after the 20-year-old claimed on Thursday that she said she didn’t feel safe with him, then prompting the “Every Day We Lit” rapper to respond, “U should leave me then because your life is wayyyy more important than this relationship.”
“Today I have no clap backs,” Carter tweeted in response that day. “You’re simply getting blocked. #imtired.”
Since the pair’s latest back-and-forth, Wright has stepped in apparently in defense of her daughter. Lucci took to his Instagram story on Saturday, apologizing to Carter for urging her to leave him.
“Can someone tell my girl I’m sorry and I’m looking for her,” he wrote.
A gossip blog posted Lucci’s apology, triggering Wright to respond Saturday in an extremely snide manner, “I’m at to the store… anybody need something?”
Fans commended the 36-year-old mother of two for ostensibly taking up for Carter as she navigates her “toxic” relationship with Lucci.
“I love Toya😍,” one fan commented. “She’s a real momma, mommy always know best!”
Another added, “And Mama of the year goes too @toyawright !!!! defend your baby girl at all times!”
Someone else added, “That’s right Toya tell @yfnlucci he doesn’t deserve Reginae he always sorry!”
Just last year Wright warned her daughter about dating the 28-year-old rap artist, urging Carter to just focus on herself.
“I don’t like the age difference,” Wright told her daughter during season 1 of “T.I. & Tiny: Friends and Family Hustle. “I don’t like the fact that he have four kids because I mean, you trying to be stepmom, honey?”
She added, “You know how I feel about that whole rapper thing,” she added. “I dated your dad when I was younger than that and there’s a whole lot that comes with that lifestyle. And that’s the last thing I want or any mother want.”
Despite the “How to Lose a Husband” author trying to protect her daughter from heartbreak, Carter proceeded with her relationship with Lucci.
However, a few fans feel Wright is overstepping her boundaries in her daughter’s relationship.
“This is why you don’t tell your parents everything that goes on in your relationship 👎🏾 Toya is overstepping her boundaries.”
“Toya needs to mind her business and let reginae make her own mistakes.”
