Klay Thompson was asked about the Cleveland Cavaliers taunting the Golden State Warriors after they beat them in the 2016 NBA Finals.
To win that series, the Cavs overcame a 3-1 deficit, which is the first time that’s ever been accomplished in the NBA. Plus, LeBron James and crew gave the town of Cleveland its first major championship since the Browns won the Super Bowl in 1964.
So winning it all that year couldn’t have been a bigger deal for folks, and a few months after the win LeBron threw an epic Halloween party where he taunted the Warriors, namely Steph Curry and Klay Thompson.
For one, there was a huge sign that mocked Golden State blowing a 3-1 lead. Plus, there were cookies made into miniature tombstones that read Klay Thompson and Stephen Curry 2015-2016, the year that Cleveland beat them.
Klay commented on the party and being taunted in the past, but he never outright dissed Cleveland. At least not until now, when he was interviewed by Slater.
“That was funny,” he said.” Look how that turned out. Bums. That was crazy. I forgot about that. Well, look at what pettiness gets you. Gets you 1-8 in the Finals. Idiots.”
Klay was referring to the record between the Cavs and Warriors in the next two NBA Finals, where they walked away with the trophy.
Of course, things are different now, considering LeBron headed to L.A. to play for the Lakers and Cleveland is a whole different team. The Warriors also had a major makeover since 2016 by picking up Kevin Durant and more recently Boogie Cousins.
At this point, LeBron, nor Cleveland has responded to Thompson.
