Tyler Perry is warning fans about a fraudulent claim circulating on social media. The movie mogul wants you to know that any pages promising you could get free items or money from him are false.
“I am not giving away anything on Facebook,” Perry says in the video titled “Don’t Fall for Scams” posted on his social media platforms Tuesday. “I am not giving away any money. My team has to shut down these things every day. There’s a new one popping up. Do not give your information to any of these people. Do not give them anything. I don’t know who they are, but every day we have to get 10, 20, 30 of those things shut down on Facebook. I am not giving away anything. This is Tyler Perry. I’m not giving away anything. Please do me a favor: post this everywhere so people will know that it’s not true.
“In my life, I’m a giver,” Perry adds. “I give a lot of things to a lot of people, to a lot of employees, random things — cars, houses — that I do. But that is not true, OK? The Facebook stuff? I’m not giving away anything. Stop it, devil.”
It’s true that Perry is known for his generosity. Over the years, he’s donated $100,000 to an Ohio school district and helped cover funeral costs.
However, Perry’s statement comes after unofficial social media pages have cropped up promising the director-producer is giving away homes, cars and money to anyone who shares the scam-ridden posts, according to 40/29 News.
While several fans thanked Perry for clearing things up, others bashed anyone who would take the bait.
