After a bitter battle with ex-manager Martin “Kendu” Isaacs, Mary J. Blige’s divorce is finally over.
Blige had reached a settlement with Isaacs in March, however, the details hadn’t been finalized.
Now, according to documents obtained by TMZ Wednesday, June 20, those specifics have been hammered out, but the details are being concealed from the public.
The singer initially filed to separate from Isaacs nearly two years ago, releasing a statement in July 2016 that read, “sometimes things don’t work how we hoped they would. But, there is a divine plan and a reason for everything.”
Blige had credited Isaacs for helping her overcome issues with drug and alcohol abuse but things took a turn and after 12 years. She filed to divorce him citing irreconcilable differences.
Then, the battle over finances ensued with Isaacs requesting up to $129,000 in spousal support. Blige was only ordered to pay him $30,000 by June 2017. But that wasn’t the end of her issues with her estranged spouse.
In January, Issacs filed documents that claimed he suffered from “emotional distress” because of the divorce proceedings.
Papers obtained by The Blast said the record producer “has experienced physical manifestations of stress and emotional distress from this matter, which has caused him to become hospitalized.”
He also claimed he became “unemployable” as a result of the split and that it became “impossible” to pay rent. He claimed that without his Grammy award-winning wife he would be “destitute.”
And while Blige can officially cry “No More Drama” as the matter has been put firmly behind her, while she was in the thick of her contentious split, she told Variety it took an effort to keep her attitude positive.
“I’m living. I’m not happy about a lot of things. I thought someone loved me, right? Turns out, he was a con artist and he didn’t, and now he’s coming after me for all my money,” she said last year while discussing her Oscar-nominated turn in “Mudbound.” “When you come out of something like that, you realize you were never the one. There was someone else that was his queen. I got played. I got suckered. I have to keep smiling and keep my spirits up because this is designed to kill me.”
In response to the finalization of her divorce, MJB fans have been rejoicing.
“She is FINALLY divorced!! Pushing for her to have a #DIVORCE soiree!! @maryjblige.”
“FINALLY!!!! Its over. #NoMoreDrama Have a #divorce party @maryjblige!!!! #TurnAllTheWayUp.”
